Rapid test

Hi Doc.
I purchased a rapid home test From "geodesic meditech inc" the name is "Hiv test yourself."
The result is ok, i'm negative, and i read the instruction that says "no active virus inside the test kit" only antigene non activ ricombinante dell hiv (sorry for non complete english translation) plus reagent solution in a separate recipient.
Now......is happened that during the test i touched with my finger (with blood) the  membrane in the little windows for test.
I understand that there is no danger...because there is not active virus for test....
I'm right ??...or the test to have peace in mind will be transformed in a further nightmare because i touched a dangerous membrane....with the finger with a little cut & bood.....In your opinion these home test are really safe ??...

Thanks for answer

For specimen collection at home, not self testing.  The Home Access test is done in a central lab.

Thanks doc....my main worries is not for reagent...but for the part with the antigene non activ ricombinante dell hiv (the graduate result scale), that was in direct contact with my finger/blood.

In any case thanks for your reassurance...

No risk.  I'm not familiar with that particular test.  No test is approved by the FDA for use for home self-testing in the United States, so I cannot vouch for the accuracy of the test.  But no HIV test of any kind uses live virus as part of the test procedure.  You could grind up the test reagents and inject them into your veins with no risk of catching HIV.

In any case, I'm not sure why you would doubt the information provided by the manufacturer.  What motivation could they possibly have to include infectious HIV and then lie about it in their labeling?

Anyway, no worries.
