Perhaps I was not direct enough. You are not at risk from the exposure you describe. The negative test just re-inforces what has been said before on multiple occasions. Further questions wil be deleted without comment. EWH
Hi Dr.,
Iknow that I shouldn't be posting anymore, butI just need a little assurance. I had a rapid test yesterday (34 days post exposure) and it was negative. The HIV counselor there wasnt very confident about 5 weeks, but you have far more experience/credentials. Can I stop worrying now trust that my current night sweats/swollen lymph nodes have nothing to do with it? Last post ever, I promise.
The rash of acute HIV is genralized not limited. The headache is just that, a headache. You need to stop worrying and not think that every little thing that you notice about yourself is HIV. You really are not at risk. Please, no further questions, they do neither you, nor those who follow this site any good. EWH
Dr. one last question. Will you please describe the rash and headache that is representive of HIV infection. I just started to get a reddish radh on my chest. Also, I plan on going to the Dr. on Tuesday (27 days after exposure). if I get tested then, what would the certainty of the results be? i'm sorry to bother you again.
When I said I was not worried I was telling you what I thought and that has not changed. Nodes due to a sore throat can persist for a couple of weeks after a sore throat. I am not going to comment on what you saw on U-tube, we don't affirm on deny information from other web sites here- it serves no purpose and such information can sometimes be taken out of context.
Really, one last time, you have nothing to worry about. EWH
Thank Dr. I appreciate it. so I would still have the enlarged nodes 2 weeks afater the sore throat subsided (that is the drivivng point of my anxiety) And you are confident that the "headaches" have nothing to do with HIV. I saw from a Dr. Kuhn on youtube that the "secondary symptoms (sore thoaght, ynphnodes, headache etc) would only accompany primary symptms( fever or rash) is there any truth to this? Once again, you're not worried? sorry, i know im a bit of a hypochondriac, but I do appreciate your fast thourough answers and this service in general...
You can be comfortable that you did not get HIV from the exposure you describe. You have provided nearly all of the information which leads to this conclusion. Let's review it:
1. Your partner gets checked regularly and was negative relatively recently. It is unlikely that he was infected since his last test on a statistical basis.
2. If he was infected, the risk of getting HIV from performing oral sex is very low, if there is any risk at all. We quote the risk, if your partner was infected, as 1 infection per 10,000 exposures and some experts feel there is no risk at all. Having recently bitten your lip does not change that risk. Neither does dental disease, braces or a burn (like a pizza burn) in the mouth, Your bite started to heal just as soon as it stopped bleeding.
3. Your symptoms which came on the next day are far too soon to be HIV and are far more consistent with a viral (non-HIV) sore throat. This sort throat could very well explain your swollen node(s) as well.
4. The cotton head sensation is not suggestive of HIV.
5. There is NO risk from kissing of any sore, including heavy kissing, even if your partner was infected.
You ca feel comfortable that you do not have HIV. Hope this helps. EWH
The guy said his next hiv test is for later this month (more towards the end, not later this week) he refuses to get one sooner
