Oral Sex with small cut on penis

Hi Doctor,

I'm really really worried. 3 days ago, i received oral sex from a transvestite, and i got a cut from it on my penis.

How much is the chance of me contacting the HIV virus from such experience assuming that she has blood in her mouth from open sore / ulcers / cuts?

I understand that saliva has a "deactivating" effect on the HIV virus, however I'm still afraid that in any chance that she might has blood in her mouth, which can get into the cut on my penis, thus resulting in HIV infection.

I'm really regretful for my stupid act. Hope to hear a reply from you real soon.

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum.

Oral sex almost never transmits HIV, especially from an oral partner performing oral sex; some experts believe it never occurs at all.  Since many, many people have inflamed gums, canker sores, or other cuts/lesions in the mouth, or even blood, it is apparent these make little or no difference.  And although biting (presumably the source of your penile cut) is often listed as an HIV transmission risk, there are few if any documented cases of such transmission.

For those reasons, this was a very low risk event that does not require HIV testing.  But of course you can always be tested anyway, if my reassurance isn't sufficient and you remain worried about it.  You can expect negative results.

It makes no difference, and would not even if your partner were known to have HIV.

Please accept the advice at face value and ignore any "yes but" or "what if" scenarios that might come into your mind.

Hi Doctor,

Sorry last question. I forgot to mention that the transvestite is a commercial sex worker.

Does the risk increases by many times? Thanks.

Haha, thanks doctor. What can I say? Verbal reassurance from doctors with such credentials like you is already enough for me to stop my anxiety and fear that's going on for the past few days.

Especially this sentence: "From a strict risk assessment perspective, no testing is needed."

Thank you Doctor Hunt. I really appreciate your input and the work that you are doing.

Correct.  From a strict risk assessment perspective, no testing is needed.  However, many people who are sufficiently nervous to come to a forum like this need a negative test, in addition to verbal reassurance, before they can stop worrying about it.  Only you can decide whether this applies to you.

Hi Doc,

Thanks so much for your prompt reply. I'm really terrified. Your reassurance really calmed me down.

Just to confirm, even with the cut on my penis, it is still very low risk that does not require testing?
