DUO ACCURACY

Dear Doctors,

In a trip to Cyprus I gave oral to a man for a couple of seconds with no ejacuation. We also did fingering and i think his penis touched my anus but there was no penetration. The guy was half Cypriot half Brazilian and unfortunately i did not ask his hiv status. After a couple of days (6) i experienced mild fever 37,4 and mild sore throat. I started panicking and i did the following tests in London where i reside.
Dna 10 days pe -> negative
Hiv duo 29,31 and 32 days pe> negative
I think anxiety causes me symptoms. I also went to a gum clinic and they told me to have a duo at 6 weeks and it will be 100pc conclusive!

I am going to test next week.

Doctors can you please advise whether my duos are reliable? I see how dismissive Teak is and i am panicking further. It is really surprising how easily he says that oral is no risk at all by quoting your rsearch and dismissing Duo test as non conclusive despite your reassurances to clients.

Can you please tell me if my test at 6 weeks will be conclusive and also whether they are reliable irrespective of risk?can i resume unprotected sex eith my wife without posing a risk toher or i have to wait for 6 weeks?

FYI doctors i paid 265£ for the rna and 130 £ for each duo. I cannot affird further testing.

Ps. I have never been with a man and i am not planning to do it.

Thanks and regards

Welcome to our Forum. I'll be pleased to comment. The exposure you describe is very low risk for HIV.  Masturbation ("fingering") is a no risk event for HIV and the risk for acquiring HIV from performing oral sex if your partner had HIV (and statistically this is unlikely) is very low- less than 1 infection in 10,000 exposures.  Now, your DUO test has provided conclusive data that you were not infected.  Because they combine an HIV p24 antigen test and  HIV antibody test, DUO tests provide conclusive results on possible infections at 4 weeks following exposure.  there is no reason for further testing.

I hope this comment is helpful.  EWH

Final answer.  No, the antihistamine would not effect your test results.  This ends this thread. EWH

The nature of the exposure does not change the performance of the test.  No change in my answer.  Take care. EWH

Thank you Sir. I am just planning to test again at 6 weeks just to follow the UK guidlines on this type of test.
Last query and pleasefeel free to end the thread.

Would you advise the same even in a high risk situation? Can i resume unprotected sex with my wife?

Thanks this is my last comment
