Welcome to our Forum. I agree with your doctor. You are being hypersensitive and overly concerned.
Nothing about the exposure you describe places you at any risk for HIV. HIV is not spread through masturbation or by contact with inanimate objects (like tissues or towels) contaminated with genital secretions and there is absolutely no reason for you to seek testing related to the exposure you describe.
Furthermore, the ARS NEVER starts 2 or 3 days after acquisition of infection and most doctors would not call a temperature of 99.6 a significant fever. Finally fever alone is not the ARS.
Believe your doctors about your bumps.
My sense in reading questions is that you are too worried about STDs and HIV. I urge you to try to figure out how to work through this. EWH
When they say symptoms as fever is it really fever of 99.6 F and above or feeling hot and weak wit no real fever. Does rash include couple of pimples or bumps on arms and chest
Thanks
Doc
Hello Doc, I noticed small bumps on my penis when in erection and i feel the pain is from that but non of the doctors say those small bumps are harmful or to worry about. since my last exposure a year ago and three months later I had all STD's negative.
Thanks a Million
Thank you doctor. For understanding the benefits.I would not want to use it and due its toxin level one could have side effects but would this not reduce the risk of contracting HIV in general and help reduce the spread of it in general population. If under 72 hours, post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) with anti-HIV drugs to help prevent infection. I read a recent article in bbc.co.uk that the virus finds itself breeding in the testicles so is why the drugs do not completely destroy the virus as in blood
I only had 97.5F doctor just felt like i was burning up and weak. The tissue was used immediately after cleaning my hand from her secretion fluids. I am guessing your answer remains unaltered.
Thanks.
I am not sure I understand your question about PEP. I would not recommend PEP for you as you are not at risk and PEP does have side effects and is expensive. People should not take medications they do not need and there is no reason you have provided to use PEP.
I understood how the tissue was use. The additonal information in no way changes my answer. You do not need to worry and do not need testng related to the exposure you describe. There is no risk. EWH
Sorry my question was about why the health department or other agencies not promote about PEP if it is so effective to eliminate the virus from the body. So individuals like me and others on this forum can go to a doctor immediately after a risky behavior and talk to him of the exposure and have him decide to prescribe PEP. Just like how in my case you told me I don't need them.Would that not save a lot of life's because people don't hesitate to see a doctor like you immediately and take a timely advice. I was not aware of the risk and benefits of PEP till yesterday and i am guessing i am not the first.
Thanks Doctor.
I really appreciate all the individuals lending services on this forum.
I cannot speak to how and why (or when) health departments will or will not promote PEP of other newly available management strategies for any STDs, including HIV.
PEP is a relatively new intervention, not to mention expensive. The best trials of PEP are still underway as well. Thus, given the fact that health departments (and CDC) tend (appropriately) to be conservative in their approach, it is not surprising to me that they may not be aware and/or promoting PEP at this time. Personally, I have great fear about the downsides of PEP in terms of medication overuse and the potential to promote development of resistance to medications for HIV.
This is my perspective. Hope you find it helpful. EWH
Hello Doc,
You adviced me not to get tested. But I am having painful lymph nodes in front and back of my neck, near my collar bone, inner thighs. They are not hugh by can feel the bump hard and swollen.Rash on the chest and running nose only when I am outside in cold. Do I need to get tested and what can be a confirmatory test at this time. (PCR DNA,RNA,ANTIGEN). From FL.
I have kids at home and am scared to touch them
Thank you Doc
Your fears are not justified. If you wish to get tested, the best test at this time is one of the so called "DUO tests which tests both for HIV p24 antigen and HIV antibody. If this sort of testing is not available, getting a PCR test and a standard antibody test might be substituted although the PCR is not in any way standardized for HIV diagnosis. In either situation and with either test, testing would not be considered definitive until 4 weeks following exposure. EWH
Hi Doc,One last question about what part the body is considered groin swelling I would like to move along but my groin is painful and swollen. Does ARS cause this part of the groin swell.
1) http://media.summitmedicalgroup.com/media/db/relayhealth-images/groinstr.jpg
I was under the impression that the below picture (link) is what that swells
2) http://medicalimages.allrefer.com/large/swollen-lymph-nodes-in-the-groin.jpg
Please help clarify
This will be the last answer. When swollen glands in the groin are discussed, typically persons are referring to the area at the top of the legs where they meet the pelvic area. the area noted in your second link (lymph nodes) is the correct picture. If you have questions you should see a helath care professional.
Further questions will be deleted without comment. EWH
