HIV Risk And Symptoms

Dear Doctor,

I am very worried about catching the HIV.

10 days ago I had a protected sex with a girl. Condom did not break - i checked.

What I am worried about is that she fingered me, and that she might have had some of her vaginal fluid on her finger and that I could catch the HIV that way.

Someone on the forum told me there is no chance I can get the HIV that way - I took it for granted.

3 days ago I get the flu shot and today I get a light fever and one lymph node swollen (in the armpit)

Based upon what I wrote do you agree with someone on the forum that I could not get the HIV from the activity i described. Also, do you think these are HIV symptoms or these might be a flu shot side effects.

Thanks in advance,

Dear Doctor,

Thank you very much indeed. I really appreciate your quick response.

So, you agree that a person cannot get the HIV from fingering despite the fact that there might have been some vaginal fluids on the finger. Am I right?

Best,

Welcome back to the Forum.  I saw your response from Teak on the HIV Prevention Community site and agree with the advice that he has provided- there is no need for worry and no need for testing.  Condom protected sex is safe sex and that your partner "fingered" you does not put you at risk for HIV or other STDs either.  It is unlikely that your partner had HIV and even if she did, HIV and other STDs are not transmitted by this activity.  There is no reason for concern and no need for testing related to the exposure that you describe.

The slight fever that you note and your swelling of the armpit are not due to HIV acquired fro the exposure that you describe.  The could, possibly be related to your recent receipt of the flu vaccine (congratualtions on getting the flu vaccine- that is a good thing to do, by the way)

I hope these comments are helpful.  EWH
