Negative Test or Six Months Sufferring

Hello Dr HHH and Dr Hook I got my negative test for Hepatitis B, C and HIV yesterday but I had a doubt that the nurse reused the needle because I didn’t see that he pull out the needle to the plastic but the nurse assured me that the needle she used is new.
In the clinic that I finished my laboratory test my mother is working also the nurse that took the blood is friend of my mother. When I go to hospital I think im the first patient in the laboratory…Hospital open at 9 so I decided to go there at 8 am so I will be the first patient.
Here the procedure:
1. The nurse use a garter and put in my arms…and she open the plastic with needle and put in the table I didn’t see but heard that she tear the plastic to pull out the needle.. So I had doubt the needle is not new so I requested to her to take the another needle…Same story I heard that she tear the plastic to pull out the needle..after that she started to extract my blood and put in the tube…Before she extract I check that the needle there is no mark of any bloods after that the nurse take a cotton and rub the blood and put the bandage she didn’t wear a gloves that time.
Question:
1. If the nurse reused a needle to me? There’s a possibilities of hepatitis virus or hiv virus to transmit to me?
2. The nurse use a cotton to remove the blood..if the cotton have a blood of hepatitis virus or hiv virus? There’s a possibilities to transmit hepatitis and hiv virus to me?
3. In your expertise if the needle used by another person and stock for almost 11 hours there will be a visible blood in the needle?
4. Any expert advise from you?
5. I’m in high risk of no risk for my scenario?

Welcome to the Forum.  I have to admit, I find your concerns to be more indicative or unwarranted paranoia than true risk.  You in particular, should know from the fact that your mother works there and knows the others who work there should assume that your care is better than that received by others, not worse.  As you point out the materials use to draw your blood are disposable an many are designed in such a way that the CANNOT be re-used.  Further, as the first person in the lab, you should know that at the end of each day it is standard practice to clean everything up at the end of the day in preparation for the next day- this means disposing of all previously use materials, cleaning surfaces, etc.   I will briefly address your questions but my honest and heartfelt advice is that you need to discuss these unwarranted fears with a mental health professional- they are not good for you.

1.  IN theory, perhaps.  the chance that the needle was reused however is virtually zero and even if she did, the chance that the person it would have been use on before you had hepatitis or HIV, or that if they did, the virus was still alive is also virtually zero. These are unrealistic concerns.

2.  No

3.  Yes

4.  See above.  Your concerns are not realistic and the fact that you have them suggests you are inappropriately worried an should seek counseling.

5.  You are not at risk

Still virtually no risk.

Your anxiety is truely unwarrranted.  To continue to focus on these concerns will just make it worse.  Please seek professional help in adressing it.  I will have nothing more to say.  EWH
