Hey guys,

I currently finished my nPEP treatment, or it´s equivalent here in Costa Rica, Centralamerica. That is actually my  first question, the treatment am taking is translated to profilactic Anti retroviral pills, I believe that is the same as PEP, is that correct?

Also, I  the finished the nPEP treatment (30 days), did not use any drugs, no cigarrets, no alcohol, particulary no cocaine, which I use recreationally, no marihuana either.

I finished treatment on Sunday, went out for some beers monday, more than 24 hours after I took the last pill. I did some cocaine, (gram-the-most) smoked some cigarrets, and a little mariahuana. I took HIV and all STD´s exams today, (tuesday) in the morning, basically 8 hours after my consumption.. Do you think it will affect the outcome of my exams in any way, the HIV and STD´s exams, that is? Thanks for your help.

I don't know what else they could have given you. Yes a 4th generation test would be more reliable at 33 days than an antibody test- that's why I recommended it.

Your test will be conclusive 3 months after your last dose of nPEP.

Thanks indeed. One more thing, one would think that nPEP is universal, same as profilactic Anti retroviral pills translated here in Costa Rica? Do you believe that to be the case?

I think they do have that, fourth generation test, it is a little expensive though, do you think the regular test is not so effective, 33 days after exposure? Thanks again.

The recreational drugs that you took won't affect your results- only the PEP will. You need to test 3 months after your last dose of PEP for a conclusive result. However, a 4th generation test taken after completion of PEP is highly unlikely to change, so you may want to look into that to see if it's available where you are.
