stressed broken condom exposure question

Last weekend My girlfriend and i were having sex and the condom broke. we had been having sex for a while and I sure I  was exposed for a long time before i noticed. I am HIV negative and My girlfriend was tested before we started practicing safe sex. Her last possible exposure was 8 weeks 5 days before her test. The test was a Stat-Pak rapid test. On these forums I've noted that it appears you have never seen an 8 week neg with a 12 week pos with any current US testing techniqes. Also she was a bit sweaty the other morning when we woke up which made me think of night sweats which got me really spun out. At this point I think I've read to much(and posted to little) and am trying to get some peace on this.

BTW:Lizze lou and the people here are great

Dr. or Dr's please help.
Thanks in advance!

Thank you very much. I have been tested. I'm going to try and stay away from the internet at this point. I truly appreciate it your input.

Welcome to the HIV forum.  You had accurate responses on the community forum, so my replies will be brief.

If your girlfriend isn't an injection drug user or the partner of a guy known to have HIV, then even if she hadn't been tested, you could be sure she isn't infected.  Anyway, her negative test is reliable.  It takes 6-8 weeks for the standard HIV blood tests to become positive.  It never takes 6 months, and even 3 months is old news.  The duration, vigor, or amount of sweat during sex makes no difference in HIV risk.

I hope you also have been tested for HIV and other STDs.  Statistically speaking, your girlfriend is at higher risk of catching something from you than the other way around.

So relax and enjoy your new relationship.  Assuming you also have been tested and negative, you and your partner have no worries about HIV.

Good luck--  HHH, MD
