Risk concern

Hello doctor!

I went to a nail salon today to get acrylics. The girl is a friend of a friend so I felt weird leaving, the area looked dirty and her tools did not seem cleaned - you could see nail dust everywhere and she told me she doesn't use clippers anymore because she nicks everyone.  She finished my nails and told me she has just finished doing a male transvestites nails. She nicked my pinky enough to bleed with her electric shaving tool. She didn't notice until they were drying and didn't do anything about it.

I know this is probably one of those eye roll questions for you but for my own peace of mind, is there any risk for hep c or hiv? I'm considerably worried...

Thank you!

Welcome to the forum.

Nobody in the world ever caught HIV from having a manicure. Even if a previous customer had HIV, you are not at risk and would not have been infected.  Same for hepatitis C.  Don't worry about it, don't get tested, and if you have a regular sex partner, you can continue normal relations without putting him or her at risk for any infection.

Best wishes--  HHH, MD
