Worried after 5 years...From India

Dear Doctor,
My story goes like this. I am 31 years male from India. 5 years back I had a condom protected vaginal intercourse with an unknown lady. The insertion was not more than 10 secs and there was no incident of condom breakage. But I got worried and had underwent a HIV 1/2 antibodies test at the 45 day mark which was negative. Again at around 75 days mark, I had an HIV 1/2 antibodies test, a HIV P24 Antigen test and Real Time PCR test - all of which was negative (was done at one of the most reputed pathlab of Asia). Now after 5 years the incident has cropped up in my mind and hell lot of worried whether I need to be tested again for that incident. All these years I was not involved in any sort of sexual encounters and have been living quite healthy. Please suggest - I am very tensed.

Regards
Arnab

Welcome to the Forum. I hope the brief comment that I will make to you will be helpful in reassuring you that you have no reason for concern.  Statistically the chance that you sex partner five years ago had HIV is low and, even if she was, with condom protected intercourse your risk for infection is virtually zero.  Since then, with the testing you have performed, you have conclusively proven that you did not get HIV form the encounter you have mentioned. there is no reason whatsoever for you to be concerned any further about this.

I hope that my comments will help you to move forward from here.  EWH

Your test results remain conclusive.  You have repeatedly proven you were note infected with HIV.  You need to stop worrying.

There will be no further answers.  EWH

Dear Doctor,

I am back once again with my queries :( Hope you will not get angry. Actually I was going through my 5 year old reports yesterday & discovered the tests (HIV 1/2 antibodies test, a HIV P24 Antigen test and Real Time PCR test-those were third generation tests I guess) were performed at the 67 days mark and not 75 days as mentioned to you earlier. Is it conclusive? I am worried again :(

Wish you a Happy New Year.

Dear Doctor,

Will definitely think on that line if I'm not being able to get out of these irrational thoughts. But hopefully I will be able to come out of it on my own. Thanks again for your support.

first, when condoms break, there is no doubt- they break wide open leaving no doubt.

Second, the tests you have had done are conclusive.

As I said before " with the testing you have performed, you have conclusively proven that you did not get HIV form the encounter you have mentioned. there is no reason whatsoever for you to be concerned any further about this."  EWH

Dear Doctor,

Apologies for my follow up question one last time. With reference to my last post, where I mentioned there was no condom breakage,I really havent checked the condom minutely in detail after the intercourse. Visually there was no breakage, Considering that, do you feel the tests  I have performed (HIV 1/2 antibodies test, a HIV P24 Antigen test and Real Time PCR test at around 75 days) is conclusive enough? Please one last time clarify my doubt. I will be grateful.

Dear Doctor,

Many thanks the reassurance and the prompt response. Actually I was a bit concerned about the 90 day window period and lots of reading over the net has confused me to a large extent. Additionally I suffer from Anxiety disorder and perhaps thats why the negative thoughts creeps in my mind which refuse to go away. Thanks again. I will move on without any concern :)

Love and regards
