Is this considered a pre-existing condition? & What should I do...?
I have a slightly overactive thyroid and a small goiter. I do not require medication for it, and it has been pretty stable. I have been on a low cost state sponsored medical insurance for over 6 months, but it will end on Dec. 1st, and I will have to purchase an individual insurance plan. Would this be considered a pre-existing condition? If so, is it one that would make it pretty impossible to get health insurance?
Also, my doctor wants me to get my goiter biopsied. I can get this done next week. If it makes no difference, I will get it done right away; however, if I get it done (and worst case scenario) it comes back with bad results, I KNOW I will not be able to get health coverage. Should I keep my mouth shut, and get the insurance, then go in for the test, or should I get the test now, and take my chances? OR will the insurance company already know that I have this thyroid issue anyway, and it won't make a difference if I keep quiet or not?

Some Insurance regulations are state specific and looking at your profile, it is hard to tell what state you live at; hence I am unable to help you determine your options.
When it comes to pre-existing conditions, generally speaking once a condition is being investigated by your doctor & you are advised to have investigative procedures such as biopsies, in states where medical underwriting is allowed, you may run into some problem with finding coverage in the private or individual insurance market. Your best bet is to talk to a licensed representative that can help you apply with a carrier that is more likely to accept you.
Again depending on your state of resident, every state has a program should you be declined for private or individual coverage.

So basically, since I am already being seen for my thyroid, it would be a pre-existing condition whether or not I have the biopsy done... Is that correct?
