palpitations

Hi, I am posting today with the benefit of knowing I'm not the only one with a similar question, as I have been in contact with others on another forum about these issues.  I hope you can shed a little light on the source of these symptoms.

Personally, my issues are with extra heartbeats and occasionally a very irregular beat which usually lasts 30 seconds or so (not necessarily super fast,  just highly irregular and extremely noticeable...sometimes causing me to feel lightheaded).

The issues for me began  2 years ago after I had an EGD and colonoscopy done,  had never had heart rhythm issues until 2 days after the procedures were done.  I had always wondered if there is a nerve or something that got stretched or hit the wrong way that could have set off my heart rhythm issues?

Also,   where the more common issue I have been in contact with others about is the question about acid reflux and the same symptoms.  I too have reflux, but I cannot find a way to correlate the two since I have both every day.

Third and finally,  I personally have noticed a very positive correlation between RED MEAT (steak in particular),  as well as some other types of similar food,  and severe exacerbation of the symptoms.   You may think I'm putting you on, but the last time I had a steak,  I probably had 500 extra beats in a 3 hour period that night...I mean, one after the other, quite literally,  and then I started putting 2 and 2 together, the next time I ate a burger, I had a similar experience.   Ever since I have dumped red meat entirely,  I may have only a dozen extra beats per week,  though I still have heartburn like crazy.

So what do you think of  1) the endoscopy connection 2) the GERD connection 3) the red meat connection

I specialize in cardiac rhythm disorders, but am not aware of any such connections.  This does not mean that the correlation isn't there.  I can certainly understand how any stomach irritation can cause some type of a vagal output which could cause cardiac ectopic beats leading to palpitations.  The only thing I would suggest at this point would be to be very aggressive with your gerd management and to avoid red meat.

I was actually just making up a little tracking sheet to determine a Correlation between all of my symptoms etc... I know a lot of doctors that i have asked and read online say there is no correlation between GERD or Gastro issues period  and heart arrhythmias.
The hardest part in correlating for me is the fact that I don't get PVC's/arrhythmias everytime i have a bout of GI issue however, I always have a bout of GI issue everytime i have PVC's/arrhythmias but it's not the only time i have PVC's/arrhythmias.
My list to correlate so far consists of the following things:
Thyroid disorder “overactive and underactive”
Gasric/bowel/trapped gas
Anxiety/panic disorder

I have all of these things so i wonder if and how they are related, I know for a fact that when my thyroid levels are off my PVC's go full force one right after the other.
I don't know if i'll ever know but it would be interesting to see the correlation, too many people with similar symptoms for it to just be coincidental.
