There are some people born with heart disease, called congenital heart disease. The acquired form most commonly found in women is secondary to obstructive coronary atherosclerosis, and can develop in young women, especially if they have other risk factors such as diabetes mellitus, smoke or have a strong family history of heart disease.
Unfortunately, heart disease doesnt discriminate between the young and old. There are different types of heart conditions as well, with a myriad of causes. Many are linked to lifestyle, and so one would assume that the average age of those patients would be older rather than younger. But not all.Some people are born with it! Some people catch a virus that attacks their heart. And then there are all the other causes that I dont know about (because I am not a doc, just a patient!)...
