Skipped beats & pain in back

About a week ago I began having heart palpitations here & there almost everyday. I've only had them once before & found out back then I was expecting. I had had an eng & wore a holter monitor but they found I was fine... Then 2 wks later I found I was expecting. Now 5 yrs later the same thing & as far as I know I'm no pregnant. But 2 days ago a deep pain would come every time I breathe in deep, sorta like pleursey... The palpitations & pleursey-like symptoms may not be related... But I'm a little concerned they may & I wanted to get your opinion. I'm also very exhausted since the palps started. My first thought was of a pulmonary embolism... But hopefully that's just my overactive imagination. I am 40 & in excellent health by the way. Also, is there any chance menopause could be rearing its head & causing some of these symptoms? Thanks in advance. Dawn

Although your palpitations were previously investigated and found to be benign it would be best to be reviewed again, particularly as you have been more tired than your baseline. Your chest pain when you breathe in might not be related to your heart rhythm and there are many potential causes which include a chest infection, chest muscle strain etc. . Menopause presents in different ways for different women but palpitations and chest pain would be somewhat atypical symptoms.
It is best to see your family physician who will be able to examine you and get a baseline ECG in the office. He/she will also be able to start appropriate investigations guided by your history and exam.
