What is mild mitral insuffiency

I am 53 yr old female with post polio syndrome (polio at 18 mo.) have been in good health during my life except for muscle weakness due to polio. Recenty had an echocardiagram which was reported with mild mitral and tricuspid insuffiency. I would like to know what exactly this is, and should I not have surgery 2 wks from now which is scheduled to take out hardware from a previous femur break.
Thank you

The mild mitral and tricuspid insufficiency is of no consequency as far as the surgery is concerned.  We worry when those become moderate to severe.  Insufficiency just means that there is some leakage through the valve back into the atria.  As long as there is no structural disease of the valves themselves these insufficiencies tend not to progress.  I suspect that is the case in your situation.

Just remember to tell your Surgeon/Doctor's that you have Mitral and Tricuspid insufficiency.
