warning on the Pegasys injection box -note the last line... Risk of Serious Disorders
Alpha interferons, including Pegasys (peginterferon alfa-2a), may cause or aggravate fatal or life-threatening neuropsychiatric, autoimmune, ischemic, and infectious disorders. Patients should be monitored closely with periodic clinical and laboratory evaluations. Therapy should be withdrawn in patients with persistently severe or worsening signs or symptoms of these conditions. In many, but not all cases, these disorders resolve after stopping Pegasys therapy [see Warnings and Precautions (5.2, 5.5, 5.8, 5.11, 5.14, 5.16), Adverse Reactions (6.1) and Nonclinical Toxicology
when you signed the disclaimer it did mention side effects-look online for the black box warning-that is what we signed-it mentions all sorts of possible lingering side effects that your dr didn't go into detail about. The problem was we weren't given a copy to peruse at our leisure,we were just put in a room to read it and sign our lives away! I am 8plus years post treatment with lingering sides that have forced me to stop working-it took nearly 5 years to get diagnosed with Post Interferon Syndrome-the 1st 3 years the consultant kept telling me it would right itself and I'd get better, then took more interest then after 5 years a diagnosis. It's a bugger but I think some of us are suffering a post viral fatigue syndrome brought on by dysregulation of our natural interferon and it isn't going to get much better.
I was warned about having sx during tx. I don't remember being warned about having sx AFTER tx and did not expect them to still be around 18months later.
yes,as far as I can see it would appear our only form of recourse would be if we hadn't been warned of possible side effects which as we all signed the disclaimer it seems we were, way back pre treatment.I think the main issue here is the lack of aftercare and that we are not listened to,I think had things been handled differently we would accept that side effects occur in a percentage of people and that we've been unlucky. We drew the short straws. We do all need to report our long term side effects so that we can ensure information is up to date, maybe the percentages would change.
Frank, I am so sorry to hear about your mom. That is horrible about what happened at the nursing home. My brother was in one and I think they drugged him to death. Sorry too about the lawyers. It is so hard to deal with unfairness and injustice like that. Good idea to make plans never to go to one!! I sent you a private message, I could find this group. I follow groups on Daily Strength and Hep-central and I never hear anything skeptical about treatments. I commend you for trying to get something going with the PIS class action. I think we are dead in the water against drug companies. Even the Supreme Court make them exempt from any lawsuits on generic drugs, vaccines, etc. I hate to give up but it seems we don't have a chance. Hope you are doing o.k. Judi
