anemia of chronic disease?

My question is: can untreated hepatitis c cause anemia?  My hemoglobin has fallen over the last year from about 15 to 13.5 (I'm male so the borderline between normal and anemic is 14).  Colonoscopy and endoscopy were normal.  My dr. thinks that the anemia is "anemia of chronic disease", caused by the hep c.  I've researched the question on the internet and can't find much on this.  By the way, I had a liver biopsy a year ago that put me at stage one, grade two.  From what I've read, it looks like anemia in patients who haven't treated is related to cirrhosis.  Any thoughts?  Anyone else have anemia associated with untreated hep c?
