Hey Rick --- Here's sending you some super cheer and good wishes for your UND/SVR. OK?
Hugs,

Rick: She did say that my VL on HCV was exactly 50. No more...no less. Does that mean then that I am UND or borderline? These results were given to me today from tests done back at the end of June.

Let's assume the worst -- or in this case the best -- and that your nurse is reading the results wrong. "50" is the sensitivity of many common PCR tests and is usually expressed as "<50". It does not mean you have 50 IU/ml's of HCV, it meand you are undetectible to the limit of the test. It's not uncommon that these tests are misread.
My suggestion is to get your own copies of the blood tests and then if any questions call the doctor to go over them.
Also, what week of treatment are these results for? Was this your first viral load test or did you have some before?

Rick,
yes, slow responder genotype 1A's DCAN clear. The first name that comes to mind is NYGirl. She did the 72 week TX and was still UND at her 3 month post-TX PCR.
i think she's due for her 6 month PCR next week so hopefully she'll post wonderful results!
I know I've seen posts from folk who cleared on a second round of TX.
If your Dr. said your VL was exactly 50, the issue of whether or not that's considered UND depends on the test she ran.
I know the older tests showed UND at below 615. Some of the newer tests go to 10, 5 or even 2.
You might want to ask for a more sensitive test.
About the 48 vs. 72 week tx; the studies show that slow responder 1A's decrease their odds of relapsing by extendung to the longer TX. I beleive the odds rise to 2 out of 3 instead of fifty-fifty; eg; 70% chance of SVR vs. 50%.
About another biopsy; if I thought my VL was 50 I'd want to have another, better PCR done first. I also might want to consult another Dr. Over the weekend, I'll pull up some links to the studies showing pluses of extended TX and flag you.
how's the new puppy?
