5 Weeks post treatment now and today I walked 3 miles in San Francisco Golden Gate Park for American Liver Foundations annual fund raiser "Football Walk for Liver Wellness". There a different events sponsored by ALF to help raise money for research, treatment, and community projects bringing awareness to the public and helping people with liver disease with information and access to health care. Many walkers were staff and doctors from California Pacific Medical Center San Francisco showing their support. Dr Gish himself was there and I got to say hi, take his picture, and he thanked me for participation and was glad to see me doing so well.
I had a great time and meet people who were walking in memory of friends and family and others who had liver disease like myself. A small girl about 6 who received a liver transplant, a daughter 23 who 1 year ago donated 60% of her liver to her mother, and her mother now beaming with health. Their whole family showed up in support. 3/4 of the way I started slowing down and getting in the end of the group. There I met a woman who just had Chemo Friday for Liver Cancer with her head scarf on walking slow but she made the 3 miles. Her inspiration got me in gear to finish the last uphill and back to our start point for refreshments and a few more speeches. Great Day
I changed my picture to one from today, holding my Football and my constant companion of my water bottle with the green bling-bling coverlet my girlfriend Debco gave me. Debco says a girl always has to have some bling, I can say I always know which water bottle is mine.
I recommend to check out liverfoundation.org, click on events and programs, from there you can search by your state and region. I've attended some of their education seminars in my area and found them very good. They can always use volunteers to talk to others just starting treatment or work on events.
During treatment I just made it to work and back to bed, but now I'm done I get enjoyment out of simple things such as a walks in the park.
Take care everyone
