I was diagnosed with hep c in 1978. I haven't had any treatment accept one liver biopsy since then. All of a sudden my weight has doubled, my stomach three larger, I have a lot of nausea. My liver 3 times the size as it's suppose to be and all I'm getting in the run around about seeing a liver doctor. I know I'm sick and that I now have poor circulation to my lower legs. I keep swelling. I'm constipated one minute and diarrehea the next.  I don't know what to do!!!

If your MD won't give you a referral get out the phone book and call a Gastroenterologist or a hepatology clinic and describe your symptoms to a nurse. They will help you with ann app. or tell you who to call.Your liver is not processing fluids and they are backing up in your belly.Same in your feet.I had a Doctor for years that would'nt test my blood when I asked, when he did he did not tell me anything about my results.Too much time passed and now the only thing that can be done for me is transplant.I was not told anything and I did not know I had passed the point of no return.
Be careful about walking and bathing and getting up,with yoour abdomen so enlarged if you fall your spleen can burst.Be blessed ,we are all so special to this life.Snow

Do you know what genotype of Hep C you have? When did you have your liver biopsy and what were the results at that time?
The swelling and fluid retention may be as cites, which is a fairly common symptom of advanced disease (Cirrhosis). If it is ascites, it should be diagnosed by a hepatologist and treated with medication and diet.
Do you have any bleeding internally or from your esophagus? Do you have any extreme tiredness? Do you have any mental confusion, forgetfulness, or lack of concentration?
My recommendation is to get in to see a hepatologist, a liver specialist, as soon as possible, so your current liver health can be evaluated any symptoms can be managed.
