We had a stupid noreaster this March that wiped out the city that I live in - it wasn't even a real hurricane (although the winds were at over 80 here where i live a block from the ocean) it was enough to scare me. In the northeast we aren't prepared for hurricanes - we have too many weak old trees and homes...........if we ever are warned I won't go through it again & it wasn't even a real one!!!!!!!
I was so scared I almost slept under my dining room table. I am not made of stone those winds scared the hell out of me.
Youe suppose to use the table as a lfe raft, not hide under it
not another major hurricane season predicted again....
broken record
fact is, they have no idea. Last year was suppose to be 'epic'. Not one hurricane hit the US last year. Not....one.
I agree NY run, hide under any table you can find, LOL
I hate strong winds as well, though I've never
been in a hurricane and don't wish to. nope !! Those poor people.
I've been in many EQ's though and let me tell you
when the ground starts shaking, your knees will start shaking
Run !! run !! my motto is Run !!! run for the hills !!
About the, winds and rain...............In Feburary the snow was so much and so heavy a tree fell, hit the house in the exact spot where the electric service came in........the tree took it off the house completely. Didn't hurt the house thank goodness!! Didn't matter the power was out for 8 days all around here.
2 weeks ago on a nice calm day after there was a lot of rain another tree ....a big tree.....fell by our barn and took out the electric horse fence. Thank goodness the horses were in the top field and also thank goodness hubby has a landscaping company and we didn't have to pay to have the tree removed, plus he also put up the fence and was able to fix it.
Sometimes when we get a 60mph wind I worry about the trees hitting the house or the kennel.

We had over 10 feet of water in our one story house and lost everything - but we lived. I spoke to a neighbor who stayed and he said the water came up unbelievably fast. The worst of the hurricane was over, but the MRGO levees broke from the storm surge and no one saw it coming :(
Oh, and I'll take hurricanes over earthquakes or tornadoes anyday. At least with hurricanes we have a lot of warning!
