My interview about Gilead & Bristol-Myers GS-7977 + Daclatasvir

This is the interview I did today.  I thought the news reporter did an excellent job presenting it (myself, not so much, was petrified I would blow it).  Hopefully, this will be the start of getting national media attention about the cure for our disease.  I would like to know what your thoughts and/or suggestions are.

I was told this morning by reliable source it is genotype 1b.  In order to sue, I am assuming you would have to first prove you were treated in the cardio unit of the hospital during that time period and prove you didn't have HCV prior to that. Let me know if you hear anything about which trial drugs they are referring to.  Thanks!

I work in the area & listen to the local talk radio daily. They leave that part out so everyone with that Genotype doesn't sue them IMHO....

"I can't release further details because nothing is certain, but this is under consideration," Chung said. "Hope is not lost; on the contrary, there is nothing but hope for persons that have been victims of this unfortunate circumstance."

Typically, treatment for the infection includes a daily oral medication, ribavirin, and weekly injections of a medication called interferon for 24 months.
------------------------------------------------------
By that satement they must be either geno 2 or 3, since there is no mention of one of the PI's and the treatment is for 24 months. ( Which I am sure it was meant as 24 weeks) as no treatment has ever been 24 months.

Also those with type 2 or 3 has allways been the 24 week people, geno 1 and 4 was always 48 weeks until the PI's were added.

Does anyone have any idea what genotype the people infected through Exeter Hospital have?  I have googled it till I am googled out..and even called the NH Dept of Infectious Disease...but "health professional" wasn't available.  Read the following link and tell me if you think they are referring to Gilead/Bristol-Myers trials when they refer to "compassionate use" scenario???  If so, we all need to holler "bloody murder".  Where is the compassion for the rest of us???  But then, again, this might end up being a good thing for us if they are referring to GS-7977 + daclatasvir.  Let me know your thoughts or any info you can glean!

To each & every one of you:

Thank you so much for your kind words and support.  I always prayed to God for a passion and/or purpose in my life...so be careful what you pray for...lol!  A lot of what I said, of course, was edited...at the end of my reply to her question about how I got HCV, I had added "it doesn't really matter how a person acquires HCV, it is the fact that so many have it and they NEED this CURE"!  And I asked them NOT to get a close shot of my hands either because have been too tired to drag my butt to the nail salon...but sure enough :).  My next attack is the local newspaper & hopefully the AP will pick it up...you never know!

I hope you all know that none of this would have happened if it wasn't for you and this great forum!  This is where I learned everything I know about HCV and it is also where I learned what a great bunch of people "us Heppers" really are.  So keep up the good work on your end, not only with the petition, but educating us "newbies" as well!!!  I really hate to think where I would be, if I had not met you all :)!!!

Petition update:  3201 have signed!

Warmest regards,

Margaret

No, I did NOT know they were going to use previous footage of him until I saw it.  I almost fell off my chair!!!  What a "strange" coincidence???  I just emailed him the link to the news report, in case no one else had told him about it.  Mention it to him tomorrow and see what he thinks. I am trying to put together a petition-signing at The Cove & will let you know when I do.  It would be great to meet you ;)

Wow way to go Margaret!
You present very well and are so articulate. Did you know they were going to show Dr. Lawitz in that segment? I have an appointment with him tomorrow I can't wait to hear what he has to say.

I signed the petition a while back. Oh one thing I was glad about is the facts presented about Hepatitis C were clear and simple and avoided how it is contracted. I feel like that was a wise move for a segment of this kind.

I am really proud of you and I admire the h eck out of you for being so proactive. Lord knows I am on week 25/48 and completely miserable.
