Need Info On Hawaii Vacation

Hi there, I need all you Hawaiian Heppers out there to give me some info on a vacation my husband is planning for the whole family to go.  We are going to Maui at the Kaanapali Resort Condos.  What is the weather like there in Feb. around the 10/12th.  We will be going for five days.

Just need some feed back on the general info for the area, things to do, etc.

Hana is a must on any trip to Maui. It's as lush as lush can get. Waterfalls seem to be around every turn, wild orchids in the trees, wild Bird of Paradise, and the biggest avocado trees you'll ever see.

Seven Sacred Falls (Hana area)
Wai'a'napanapa Caves State Park (right before Hana)
Cave Kamehaha was born in (Hana Bay)
Hasegawa's General Store-a Maui legend (Hana)

Everyone has good suggestions. If I only had 2 instead of 5 days it would have to be Hana for one, Hale'akala and the Makawao and Kula districts would be my the other. The other 3 days I'd plan after arriving. Surf and weather can dictate alot of activities you can and cannot do.

No guarantees on the weather that time of year, though it is nearing the end of the rainy season. Each island has a 'desert' on it because of the tradewinds. It's on the sw portion of every island. On Maui that is the Kihei to la Perouse Bay stretch (appx).--very dry area with a couple of great beaches at Makena---Big Beach and of course, Little Beach. The latter is clothes optional. If it's rainy this part of the island would be the most likely area to be in the sun.
Maui is a magical place.

regards,
Mr Liver

Howzit Canjun-  (casual greetings out here on the islands)

Well, lets see 5 days on Maui.  Weather is always nice here in Hawaii.  Where you're going, Kaanapali, is on the NW side of the island so you're just about guaranteed some really nice 80 degree weather.

The winter is time for big swells and big surf on the northern shores.  If you're fortunate enough to get a calm day check out Honolu'a Bay for snorkeling.  From your condo's go out to the main road (Hwy 30) and take a left. About 1/2 mile past mile marker 32 you'll see likely see cars parked off the side of the road.   Best snorkeling on the island.  If the waves are huge, it's still a great place to go watch the crazy surfers do their thang.

If the surf is too big for snorkeling, a nice full day of driving can take you to upcountry (Makawao,  Pukalani and Kula), gorgeous country and breathtaking views.  Also check out Iao Needle Valley near the main town of Kahalui, simply amazing.

Definitely go on a whale watching boat trip.  Feb/Mar is height of the season for humpbacks.   (cool tip - if/when you go into the water get your head under, relax and listen carefully.  You'll hear the whales singing, AWESOME  it's the stuff that makes chicken skin)  Some tour boats will even put a hydraphone in the water and pipe in the whale song over speakers thoughout the boat.

For the rest of your days.... grab a good book, a bottle of sunscreen, a fresh fruit smoothie and plant your toes in the warm sand, kick back and relax island style.

Be careful in the water, be mindful of the signs the lifeguards put out and don't forget your sunscreen!

Have fun, aloha and Mele Kalikimaka to you.
Peace,
Tom

Maui is fun but a little busy for this country boy. Some awesome snorkeling is past the resorts on the North end near Honokohau bay tons of fish and beautiful coral, the huge trees near there have cactus growing in the tops. The drive from Paia to Hana is very beautiful I think there are like 52 hairpin turns along the coast there , not much in Hana but some nice black sand beaches. If you are feeling like a little more adventure you can drive on around the coast past Hana to Kaupo and then on to where ever you came from, there are signs that say you can't (but you can) just drive around a few road blocks no problem. If you get up early (like 3:00 AM )drive up to the top of Hapuaakea and watch the sunrise from 10,000 feet could be frosty so bring a sweatshirt. Have a great time.  Our favorite island is Kauai   .ALOHA

Hope you have a wonderful time.....you remain in my thoughts and prayers....wish I had first hand knowledge of the islands to help, but, I bet you'll be ready when the time comes. Did your son start college this semester? Did he decide to wait?
Take care,
Hugs,

Thanks to all of you.  Most of you probably know of my hubby's Hodgkins.  We are now planning family trips with him while he can still do things.  Nothing is working on him, all they can do now is keep the tumors shrumk.  In the middle of his last chemo tx, it moved to his bones in the sternum, pelvic and spine, still doing the protocol of treatment for two more sessions but will try and up the dose by 10%.  He is only on 1/2 dose now.  Body cannot take it full dose.

He has made reservations for the family to go to Disneyland for 2 days, park hopper tickets. And he also has a tenative on Maui which is being held for a certain amount of time for final decision. Went through AAA, great deals.

Hubby was approved for early retirement and is now on SSI, yeah, they did a retro back to Oct. 2006.  Which took me by surprise, but a very welcome gift at this point in our lives.  He also qualify's as retired from Motion Picture / Plastering Local 755, which allows him to get his pension.  I never dreamed things would go so fast for us (family).

I will try and go for my one year hepc post test.  Was UND at 8 months. Think I will go after the holidays though.  Need as much family time as possible right now and so, I tend to put things off for me.

Have A GREAT HOLIDAY SEASON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bad day on Maui is better than a good on tx.  Whales will be running at that time.  Was there at the same time several years ago.  Have a good time.

I used to live on the big island and the weather there was great in Feb.,80's near the beach, cooler upcountry.
You could try searching the thorntree forum on lonelyplanet dot com.
One piece of advice, if you find a beach where no one swims, there may be a good reason, sleeper waves or undertow. Respect the ocean and have a lovely time.               OH

Go to the bookstore. Pretty sure there are some travel books that will give you everything.

Also google and maybe find a discussion group for that area. I did that when I went to Zhihua Mexico. I new EVERYTHING before I even left.

Try to get on a snorkling trip for the kids.
