New here and 16 weeks in tx - have a few questions, though

Hello everybody,

I'm new here. I'm on 16th week of tx Peg/Rib. For the past month hair are starting to falling, lots of dandruff, red itchy patches on the sculp. Not a pleasant view.

Always tired and very irritated. Loosing my patience with everybody and everything - very tough to cope with it.

2 months ago I developed a neck pain on top of uncomfortable feeling than I'm sitting at computer, watching TV or driving. One day I touched that area and was surprised to find a bump on the side of T3 of vertebrae. I run to the doctor who ordered X-ray. X-ray came out clear. My chiropractor thinks that it spasm of ligaments and mussels. Not sure the bump is still there, pain is there too. When I move my neck bump moves too and it getting, I think, bigger.

Does anybody had that too or something familiar? Did it go away after the tx? Does hair will go back? Will those patches fade away too? My GI thinks that I developed psoriasis (yuck!) -  I never had it before and nobody in my family as well. He sent me to dermatologist to consult if that is tx-related. But his so called reliable dermatologist is overbooked and there is no way to see him in the near future. Don't know what to do.  I rung my GI but he's office didn't called me back in a week. Will try to reach him again. But meanwhile want to hear anything from you, guys. Oh, and I'm 1b gyno type.

Hi im new here too. I wish i had this when i did my 12 months of peg and ribavarin. My hair fell out alot too. Lots of water helps the dry skin. Schereing had a nurse that called me every other day and she always said drink more water. My reply was then i have to get up and go pee. She was right, it helped. I hope you dont get all the side effects of this combo, but if you do, use this forum, i would have given anything to have someone who knew 1st hand about this. Now im waiting to hear about a transplant my doc sez its inevitable, but this time i have friends who know what its like. Best wishes for you and everyone else on this forum.

Hello everybody,

thank you for your kind words.

A few little updates:
1. My scalp is much better, got medication for it.
2. Hair's still falling down. I got new shampoo Pureology (makes my hair look and feel really good). But I will check out that Nexium, everybody is talking about.
3. For my irritability my Doc gave me Xanax. It makes me as zomby. I usually take Xanax only before flying somewhere. But if I will take a quoter of 0.25 mg I think it might make a trik.
4. I'd found out that doing something (big projects in the house) really helps out. I just finish to re-paint a deck and pato set. Man, it looks so good!!! It took me a while, though, too. But I did it! Alone! Thinking about re-painting a powder room... :)
5. The next day everything hurts, the whole body... But seeing th result really brings my mood up!!!

I'm sorry to hear the difficult time you are having with SX. The irritability you mention is a common effect endured by many (and many TX'er family members and friends).  I hope your doctor is also monitoring your mental health as well. Worsening depression is a common side effect that will require a patient to withdraw from treatment, not to mention dangerous and painful in and of itself.  Ask for help if you feel your mood is out of control. It is hard to know when that is. Sometimes a close friend of family member can be a helpful monitor of this.

Good luck,
Brent

I'm sorry your having so many sx.  My hair was falling out alot in the beginning so i went out and bought some nioxin shampoo and conditioner and my hair feels so much thicker and it hasnt been falling out lately, I do feel a few scabs on my scalp here and there.  I'm irritated at work more than at home because although I tell co-wrkrs i'm not feeling good they stick around anyway.  I understand that unless you've gone thru tx ppl just dont understand the pain that we go thru.
i cant even listen to a semi sad song cause i start crying.  But it feels good to cry so just let it out; it helps.
good luck and hang in there,
hugs

Thanks everybody,

I'm reading and crying -  this is new to me.... Crying!!!! I'm getting so emotional lately. My birthday in 3 weeks and all I'm thinking as to where to run away so nobody would see me like that. We haven't told anybody that I'm on tx (except our friend couple - my friend's husband went through same tx a few years ago).
It seems that I can make myself to come out to our friends (most of which are pharmacists). I can picture their sorry/scared faces (I don't think bad about them - I just know that basically nobody gives sh*t about ).
I feel sorry for my kids - b/c I'm constantly snapping at them (but, boy, they can irritate anybody...) . Hope we will ALL survive through my tx.

Thanks for sticking around, people.

Welcome to posting.

Wow, do I remember the irritability.  I was mad at most everyone, but most especially my boss, my kids and last my poor husband.  Thank God for ending TX and estrogen.  lol

You hair will grow back.  I promise.  In three years I haven't heard of anyone who went bald and stayed bald.  Joint pain, neck pain, muscle aches - all are very common during TX and unfortunately, for me, never ended after tx.  I never had a lump in my neck, but I do get muscle cramps and knots in one particular spot on my back.

Just hang in there.  I've been off tx for two years and there was a time I didn't think I'd make it through.  You're in the middle of the tunnel and it's all black.  You can't see the light from the beginning and you can't see the light at the end, but it's there.

And in a few weeks you'll see it, too.

Good luck

I can relate to your scalp. Im 1A going on week 38. My scalp has been a problem and has gotten worse. Every single hair follicle has a scab on it, my entire scalp is a scab!
white flakes cover the one piece of hair I do lhave left. It is psoriasis from the INF & RIba.
I do look like a crocodile and have tried everything from the doctor....your hair will grow back after tx so dont worry about that and yes the fatigue for me has been severe.
My ears are i the same shape....very dry, cracked and bleeding on and off.
This too shall pass.
Best of luck to you.
Dont wash your hair too much or brush it too much as per my doctor..... I havent and still Im in bad shape regarding the head and hair issue.
It will get better once tx is over.

Rita thanks,

thanks for your reply. I know everybody's different. We all coping. Our relatives too. I'm hoping fr a light at the end of tunnel. To be clear of virus.

I have a family friend. He was geno 1a. He went through 6 months combo tx. And virus went back after 3 months of being UND. He went through another 12 months of tx and now 3 years UND. He is my road post. But is seems he didn't have even 1/2 of my sides effects. And, oh, he's hair never actually grew back. But he is a guy.

Wish everybody the best,
take care.

Welcome to the world of TX. I can only tell you that everyone has different sides.  mine are:  Tired always tired, not really irriated but i can cry at the drop of a hat, my hair has thinned out alot, i have a rash they say  (dermtogist and docs)  its from the riba.. it itchy and scaby and digusting. I have tried every product over the counter and prescription, nothing has worked for me.  i also had to swollen lymph nodes, the doctor checked them out and said they were ok.  i have ulcerated mouth that comes and goes. magic mouth wash helps that.

i am also geno 1, week 31 and und at 12 weeks.

so good luck,  you can do this.

peace
