The red stilettos are what we put on and dance with every time someone reaches SVR... I can't remember exactly how it came about, but it has become a tradition.
It's one of those things which happen when a whole bunch of loony heppers get together on MH.
I just thought it was about feeling sexy!
It was fun.
Some of us went for red flip-flops, too.
I went for the stilettos, just that once in my life, so I'll always associate them with the end of my HCV treatment.
It was exciting to buy them and wear them. I was still too tired at the end of tx to go out with them, so I just wore them in bed.

JD started this with a couple of us girlfriends a long, long time ago it seems now. Whenever someone reaches SVR we get out the party shoes (must be stilleto's of course) and dance around in them.
Though this being cyber space you can go "purchase" a nice pair and dance and never really have left the house you realize.........it's more the idea (at least to me who doens't have $1,000 for a pair of Christian Louboutin's)........
And of course, Candoman insisted we put on red thongs too but that is a very rare occassion ;)
Then we have those like me that wear fancy red (cheap) flip flops. As for the thong, ain't no thong goin' on (or up) this A$$.
"It was exciting to buy them and wear them. I was still too tired at the end of tx to go out with them, so I just wore them in bed."
I thought that's when they were for.
Ha ha. I think I'll go get some red converse (so sexy), but no way on the thong. I don't even like wearing regular underwear. :)
I still wonder where it started out in the rest of the world though. Like I said, my friends would say "red shoes" if they wanted someone to make a shot in pool - and that was almost 20 years ago.
Weird.
Maybe...possibly...influenced by Chinese custom. The bride wears red shoes for good luck in some circles. So perhaps it spread a bit.
I love my Red Flip Flops for celebrating our SVRs.
But I really like our chicken suits we put on when waiting for results, too.
Thong???? Not gonna happen....

NY... now I remember.... JD was going out one night and asked if she should put on her black heels or her red heels... Let's see if we can find the thread.
That is what they are for. *Big Grin*
The Chinese believe red is lucky. The bride wears not only red shoes but a red wedding dress.
oh man, good times, Portann started the trend when she took her last shot she went to bed with red high heels on that night, what more can I say?
Agree with all; it wasn't too long ago that the Red Shoe/SVR syndrome started.
I was so over the moon to announce that I was making it to the Red Shoe Ball, that I haven't been able to change the comment. And yeah, my red shoes are totally virtual... but when I get older, I'm gonna get some real ones.
Kristina, I actually bought these especially for my SVR. They are really high and pointy. Unfortunately they turned out to be a size to big. Yikes, so I could only dance with them at home. :-(
Here is where the red shoes discussion really started:

Aw, shucks!!! Yes, Jan, I felt that! Thanks, guys! Its snowing here and if I wear my new sexy red shoes out to dinner they will get all wet, but they deserve a night out for New Year's Eve so maybe I'll just go for it. Besides, they really make the outfit special! So what do you say, sexy red heels or boring black boots? I have an hour to decide.

LOL oh no I just copied it straight out that IS too funny since you were one of the originators of the whole red shoe thing to begin with Zach!!!!!!!!!!!! Hahahaha you are always stepping right in it even when you're not trying you see! One in every crowd!
And Bill I bet those shoes ARE damn sexy! ;\)
"Unfortunately they turned out to be a size to big. "
Maybe they'd fit Bill. I bet he'd look suweeeeet!
ROFL! I might have to shave my back to model them properly though…
….and I wouldn’t wear them with socks, unlike others on this forum might do…
NO pictures bill, PLEASE!
A local pet groomer just had a drive to collect dog hair for making oil soak up mats for the BP spill. I trust you get my drift :)
I have to admit that when I wore my red shoes in bed that night of my last injection, I wasn't exactly thinking SVR, or going out on the town, or anything much other than whew, tx is done and I made it to the end, hallelujah.
And I put on the shoes as a symbol of something important (didn't know exactly what) and then went to sleep.
If anything was on my mind when I admired my feet in those shoes, it was that I could start feeling human again, maybe even sexy again, and all with a bit of help from little red stilettos.
I can tell you it was really fun and channeled my mixed emotions into something tangible.
Some sources say red has a physiological effect shown to stimulate the adrenal glands, which helps increase our stamina. I had so little energy that night but I swear the red shoes give me a lift despite hemoglobin in the nines.
Different colors have such different associations, depending on the culture.
In Chinese tradition, red is considered a symbol of integrity and that it can drive away misfortune. So yes, generally, good fortune and luck.
In North America, red is culturally associated with sexuality and love. Valentines are red because hearts are red; red dresses and shoes likewise are romantic and/or sexy.
There's an explanation of color psychology in several books, often in disagreement.
Anyone with an anthropology background remembers Desmond Morris's The Naked Ape. I don't think I'll repeat his lips, etc. thesis here because the guys might go nuts. (To the gals only, Desmond Morris says painting the lips red represents a woman ready for sex because it signals her vagina lips are reddish and swollen! Hot dog!)
Anyway, women colored their nails red in ancient Egypt, and red has probably been part of cultural symbolism, one way or the other forever.
In South Africa, red is a sign of mourning, so go figure.
Anyway, if you try them, please let me know if you get that exciting feeling!
Susan
P.S. Not to complicate things but the Pope traditionally wears red slippers!
