I got stopped at a checkpoint in the Lower Ninth Ward Wednesday for an expired brake tag. They just ran my license and let me go (I think they were really looking for warrants), but I took it as a sign to get it together. I have fallen behind on a lot of things during tx, so my registration was expired too and I had never changed it over to my new address either.
Anyway, I took leave today and went to take care of a bunch of business hour errands I can never get done - one of which was the DMV (yuck). The DMV is very near a coffee shop I used to work at in River Ridge, so I stopped in and had a great time catching up with everyone. It stormed while I was in the shop, and there was definitely no oil to be seen. I even looked closely at all the puddles and ditches on the way home and didn't see anything anywhere.
I think that dude's neighbor's truck has an oil leak, or maybe there is a mechanic nearby who is not disposing of things correctly. Who knows? But I really don't think it is raining oil (yet) thank God.
I'll have to get back to y'all on the rainbows. I didn't leave my house until almost ten, so if it was there this morning I missed it. :)
wow I just don't know if it's just that the road had oil on it or if it was picked up from the Gulf - I'd like to see more reports of it before I freak out but maybe Jelise can be our detective and find out. The rainbows in the sky every morning does sound a bit odd to me too - they aren't really THAT common. Does it rain every morning or are they just there?
oil and water won't mix ??
River Ridge is only about 5 miles west of where I work. I have family there - I'll have to call and ask what they've seen, but I haven't noticed any streets or puddles that look like the ones in the video. I'm going to pay more attention on the way to work tomorrow.
You know what I have noticed though? There have been big, bright, beautiful rainbows in the sky EVERY morning this week. Odd that...
I don't know why,it does for me...keep trying. The article is still up at huffingtonpost.com right now if you want to go that route to look for it... I myself believe it is oily rain.
The link didn't work for me.
