Scary News

EDMONTON - A second case of syringe reuse has been reported to health officials in Western Canada, this time involving a doctor practising in both Alberta and Saskatchewan.

The physician works in hospitals in both Vermilion, Alta., and Lloydminster, on the Alberta-Saskatchewan border, and has been "administering multiple doses of medication through IV lines to multiple patients," Alberta Health services announced Thursday.

Small town hospitals in Alberta. There was a horrific case recently of not sterlizing equipment properly. With a bit of luck, there won't be any cross infections here, the risk is not high (syringes in IV lines being reused, as opposed to injection), but still, its not acceptable. The fault probably lies in the whole, in administration / oversight cut backs that were made in the 1990's when the province was struggling. Things will change now Alberta is oil rich.

These incidents are truly shameful, and to think that they are happening right under a doctor's nose and sometimes even with their knowledge is truly horrifying.
