Want some good news?

After the massive blow of my heart op - 2 stents and recovering, the Herpatologist visited to tell me I'm viral log undetectable at 4 weeks! Getting back on PegInter and Riba today in hospital so cardio can observe heart under the interferon conditions.

By the way. The heart doc told me I have made him a believer in vegetarian diet - I have loosely followed a Dean Ornish kind of diet for about 10 years and the cardo said there is very little cholesterol or gunk in my heart for a guy of 63. The artery that was the problem had grown into the heart muscle so was being squeezed when heart contracted nothing exercise or diet could do to lessen that one. A-Fib is still about but I'm optimistic.

I badly want to hear some good news from somebody else here!

Love you all

Pete

Heart seems to be doing OK. I go back to see cardio tomorrow before interferon shot so he can see heart without the drug. Only slight concern is conflict over what heart wants from white blood cells and platelets and what the peg and riba is doing to them. I would hate a strike against me in that department after what I have been through.

However, safe to say I'm a peg and riba zombie once again, and This Floyd song reminds me of the experience....

There is no pain, you are receding
A distant ship smoke on the horizon
You are only coming through in waves
Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying
When I was a child I had a fever
My hands felt just like two balloons
Now I've got that feeling once again
I can't explain, you would not understand
This is not how I am
I have become comfortably numb

Wonderful news ! Statistically if you and und at 4 weeks the chances of a successful tx are at least 90%.

As far as food and nutrition goes, well, I feel that organic, fresh and as freshly prepared as possible is more important that simply eating no meat.
In fact cirrhotics need protein but not from red meat.
Balance is the key. That's my point of view.

Yes the key there is a low sodium and low cholesterol for any diet types. On another note I have a  friend professing from the Hindu religion, his whole family says he is going to hell because he eats meat,he gets a good chuckle out of it.Keep up the good spirits  you have a great attitude and good folks surrounding you.

Veg diet can be hard to maintain but I have stuck with it. Also had no signs of fatty liver even with Fib stage 3.

I would not want influence anyone on what they eat but it is good sense not to fill yourself up with junk and gunk if your heart and liver are not good

Actually I eat a little fish about once every 2 months ( my wife is chinese and her in-laws think vegetarians are mad) maybe and since the tx I take egg whites for a little protean.

best to you Danny

Will be here one more night (only I hope). Because the pegInterferon exposed the heart, cardio would like to see how the post op heart re-acts before I go home. Makes sense to me. The cardio, is a bright, interested, caring man and I would be a fool to pass this up.

best you

Very happy that you are Undetectable. Congratulations.

Pete, you wanted to hear good news from someone else. I would like to give you the link to Karen's recent post and thread (Karen goes by  Crossroads on the forum). You were not here when she was treating, but this woman was and is an inspiration to all of us. She fought against great odds (already had end stage liver disease when diagnosed) and she had many complications, had an esophageal bleed while on treatment, had low blood counts, had many severe side effects. But, she won. She has attained SVR. Her posts in her thread are very inspiring.

Hang in there. Best of luck with treatment, Pete.

Always great to hear good news.A vegetarian diet is not best for everyone, but it's great that it worked for you.I read a book a few years ago It was called Eat Right For Your Blood Type...

The premise was based on evolution and civilizations ect... each blood type have foods that is good or not good for them.Specific diets were given for all the blood types.Blood type AB usually have anscestry that comes from older civilizations and they were only ones who could eat any type of diets. And for instance blood type O   had to eat a high protein diet consisting of a lot of red meat.
Was a very interesting book researched by 2 generations of naturopath doctors, father and son.I never did the diet for my blood type, but nevertheless it made a lot sense to me.

Best wishes on your treatment.

Hey this great news! Glad the doctor narrowed down what the problem was. I hope it turns out so you continue treating and manage what is happening with your heart. So you are still in hospital and they have to do all this inpatient? Did they give you any idea how long an evaluation like that could take? Either way, glad you are feeling optimistic.

It is nice to know your good diet could have had a favourable impact on all this. I don't really consider myself a vegetarian but I don't eat meat. I do eat sea food though. After probably a ten year hiatus of no meat I had a few bites of some very rare steak during the Incivek period. It was incredible. I guess my body just craved it. Anyway a few hours later I had horrible cramping.

Keep us informed & take care ♫
