arm bands

so at one of my jobs, as Ive said, I have the arm bands on the counter...Ive had some great conversations with people about Hep C.....but there are the few...."Hep C?  Lets get outta here before we catch something" or  "Hep C...wow....HAHAHA".....Im human so some of the comments hurt alittle and remind me why I remained quiet about it for so long.....but then the fighter in me raises her head and is determined to not only beat this thing, but be as active in spreading the word as I can.....dont let the reaction of others keep you from forging ahead and slaying this dragon...stay strong and remember we are in this together....hugs to all of you!!

I had people refuse because they didn't speak English, most were Chinese.
Once I yelled. " FREE!" they took it.
My hope was one of their kids could translate for them.

I had a Lady refuse a wrist band like it was contaminated I told her to look me up when someone she loves has it or someone she knows I will still be here to help then I added be careful how you treat people because I watch the news every day and so far I haven't heard any stories on the new's about her "Walking On Water" Judge me and Be Judged!  To tired to fix the spelling errors... No one wanted to discuss Aides either people need to wake up and they will promise!

I have experienced the same thing this year. In my deep past, I was too
naive to notice the stigma involved, when I was young. I never thought people would be afraid of catching it from me, although I felt the burn, when I would go in to deliver my babies, and notice the nurses reactions, when they saw 'Hep C' on my chart. In fact, when I gave birth to my son, there was quite a bit of blood, and the nurse jumped back, and my Husband had to catch the baby!
During Treatment, I became very sensitive to these kind of comments,
so I stopped mentioning it, but now that I am thru with Tx, I will again continue to educate people about Hep C.
One out of 33 Baby Boomers have Hep C, so what are these people talking about, with "we better get out of here"....everywhere they encounter people, they will encounter people with Hep C

I suggest you print out  a few cards or fact sheets,  with statistics on them ( if you don't already have some) to place with the arm bands. Next time some moron makes one of those remarks, you can simply smile and hand them a card saying, " here are some facts for you to read."

Its in Newspapers, on websites and on all the local news.  Very soon you
won't have to tell them about it.   They won't be able to say they didn't
know about it.  People are being given the choice to get tested.

Hepatitis C has gone viral in the media.  People are now being given
the choice to do something about IT!  Its hard to have a choice about
something you didn't know about.  This isn't a laughing matter anymore.
I just had some more bands sent to me.   I don't know about where you
live in the world..... But I know where I live there is going to be a flood
of people going to get tested for Hepatitis C.  Its already started.
