Never took sleeping pills before.  What kind should
I take when on treatment?  Does anyone know what
I should be taking to sleep?

Haha I've notice a ton of medical postmaster the mods comment on social side. As long as someone gets answers that's all that matters. It's funny though

If anyone has a concern about the sides of the forums, please send me a PM.  This isn't an appropriate thread to ask the questions in.

The mods don't read everything, from what I can tell.
If you have a question for them, write to them directly.

If you put your cursor on "about this forum"  on the upper right side of the screen, it tells what the forum is about, if that fits, post there.

Most of all, don't fret about it. Give it time, and it will become easy.

I agree - having TWO places to post is .... well, for all of us, more confusion makes more... confusion.

Mods - please help us with this.

I am really into being a masochist, about not taking pills for sx, etc.
But I did notice that these anti-itch pills that my Doctor prescribed for me, called Hydroxyzine, also calmed me down (it is also used for anxiety and jitters) and helped me to sleep better.
The problem there, was...once I was sleeping nice and heavy, my husband said I was snoring, and I got this dry mouth, and I think I might have chewed the inside of my cheek, while I had a night-mare, because then I got this painful mouth sore.
That's the trouble with this Tx, once I get rid of one side effect, another pops up!  I got rid of the dreaded mouth sore, with a mouth-wash called Desert Essence Tea Tree Oil Mouth-wash, and it didn't burn my mouth, like my stronger mouth-washes.
Now, if this had been on the Medical side, I may have been warned to "stay on topic with the original post" by another poster, if I digressed from sleep aids, to mouth-wash. I guess I tend to "multi-task think", we are all differentin how we communicate : )

I got the answer to my question.  Thats all that matters. I asked
a personal question about taking sleeping pills and what I should
take.  I don't need to ask that question to a bunch people who aren't
medical professionals on the medical side.  It was meant for the social
community and from people kind enough to not blast me with sides.
I'm not here to contribute to the drug companies and medical research.
They charge lots of money for there services and my insurance pays them.
I just want some simple answers from time to time.  I'm sure you can
understand where I'm coming from.  Have a wonderful day.

I think a lot of us are going to be using the social side for almost everything now - they've certainly got me feeling paranoid about what I can post on the medical side. On the other hand, I don't really see the need for separate forums, and probably will be too lazy and/or forgetful to check both, so I will be very happy if everyone just starts defaulting to the social side for everything.

If you are taking your ribavirin later in the day, it may be what's keeping you awake.
I was told I could take it with breakfast and lunch. Once I started doing that my sleep problems disappeared.

I dont take any sleeping pills. I just wake up at 7 am, get my kids to school, go out, do some work, do some shopping, some loads of clothes, make the dinner, take the dog on a few walks thru-out the day, so by the time I hit my bed, at 11 pm, I am super exhausted, and sleep until about 4 am.
Then I'm up, drink some water, use the bathroom, back to bed, and sleep from about 5:30 am to 6:30 am.  I function very well, on just six hours sleep, and I have been like this, since I was about 45 yrs old. I guess I dont need as much sleep, now that I'm older. But it is very important that I lie down in bed, everynight, same time, no t.v. on, or any kind of light or sounds, etc.

My husband had to resort to Ambien, which is fairly addictive, and not ideal.  His insomnia was pretty brutal on tx, riba we think.  The INC reduces the efficacy of the Ambien, however, and his dosage had to be adjusted a few times.  He is now weaning himself off of Ambien, and will be replacing with melatonin.  I personally think melatonin is a great place to start, and works for a lot of people (me included.)

This is a really difficult problem with tx, as it induces some really tough insomnia! I've found melatonin to be most helpful, and my hepatologist ok'd it during triple tx with Incivek. A word of warning is in order however. It caused my dreams to become more intense and more memorable, but in some people it can cause nightmares. Read up online to find the best dose, as it is most commonly sold in a pill that is much too large a dose, and it is actually more effective and less likely to cause nightmares at smaller doses. I buy 500mcg pills at Trader Joe's and use a pill cutter twice, so I take about 125mcg. I still don't always fall asleep, but this puts me to sleep better than the prescription sleeping pills do, and they also work fairly quickly, like about 15-20 minutes. Good luck!

have you tried any over the counter stuff?  of course talk to your doc first and make sure anything you take doesn't interfer with your tx.  I take a benadryl at night to help with the itching, which also helps me sleep I think...but I don't really have an issue with sleeping anyway, I'm always tired, can fall asleep anytime of day or night if I tried!
