realapsed

I was cured with pegintron and  ribivaron for hep c for six months. In the beginning of the treatment everything went good and after six months the results was undetectable, but after one year it result again positive. My doctor tells me to take the cure again as soon as possible for a whole year because as from blood results the hep virius is minimum so i am asking someone who took the cure for the second time if than was cured and if to decide i take cure later  because there are lot of side effects and symptoms in curing with pegintron /ribaviron.I am genotype 3,thanks for someone who have a comment on this.

That sounds like a fair dose to me .
first tx I was 91kg had only 100peg a week and 800 riba a day.

Now I´m only 83kg and has 180pegasys 1200riba and 48weeks instead of 24.
have you ever done any biopsy if so when? do you know your platelets nr?

If it is as you sayed in your message to me, that youve done a post 6months vl test and it came back UND and then 12months showed relaps.

It could be that either the first or the second or both tests were false,
or it can be that your liver is in a very bad shape.

Or maybe the tests wasen´t sensetiv enough so you in facto never were totaly UND.

Or some unknown reason.

Be careful with alcohol drink non, i think is the smartest until you know how much liverdamage you have

God bless

Where did you go??
If you dont understand the shortenings please say so.

sx means sideeffects, tx treatment, bx biopsy, vl viral load, post means after  SVR means sustained virus respons (cured) UND no detectebul virus in bloodstream etc.
( but the virus can still hide in the livercells and come back to the blood)  welcome to ask if you have questions.

If you gonna retreat you can do as I did chance meds go from pegintron to pegasys ribavirin to copegus I found the side effects much lesser so far on pegasys and copegus although higher doses.

If you tell us what doses you were on what weight you had (have) we can maybe be in some help, so you can determen what strategi you wanna chooce for your next treatment.

take care Malta man

Hugs - so very sorry about the return of the virus in your bloodstream

I'm 3a did not move viral load until 12th week.. And have been UND since Dec 2006. Last shot was February/March 2007.

Last PCR was 8 weeks ago - and it was still UND.

I have been told that I'm one of the lucky ones not having gone UND right away.

But folks - if it can happen to me - it can happen to you as well.

HUGS to you all.

I'm sorry to hear that too. It seems tho with longer tx, and tweaking soc geno 3's can beat this. I'm believing you will beat this too! I'm a geno 3, and slow responder. Txed for 48 weeks. I'm praying this works and is the only time I have to do tx.
All the best!

And something else...I've noticed that when geno 3s retreat...they seem to WIN!  :)

I too am curious as to how sensitive your PCR tests were.  Everybody should have a very good one at the end of treatment just to be SURE.

Hi there....very sorry to hear.  This disease is maddening!

I am curious though....how sensitive was your PCR's?   Or do I understand you to say at the end of the 6 months you were undetectable, but did not check again until 1 year after treatment?   Or did I misunderstand and the negative was at 6 months post treatment and positive at 12 months post?  This is a scary thought.

Again just curious for I am doing the 6 month wait right now and scared to death I will relapse.  I am a geno 2 and I hear that 2/3 is not really that easy to treat afterall.

Keep plugging away.  You can do it just like FLGuy did!

There are several of us geno 3 people who failed with 24 week treatment.  I understand your disappointment.  After resting for about 10 months I started again.  Like your doc suggests, the second time it was for a year (actually ended after 46 weeks) with a few other changes included.  The second time was successful for me.  For those who relapse, the second treatment needs to be different (longer or more meds or different meds) from the first try.  If it was the same as the first treatment, you would have expectations of the same result.
