Chances of infecting partner with Herpes...

I had unprotected sex with a partner at the tail end of a very mild outbreak.  I have had HSVII for 15 years and never passed it on to another.  The timeline is:  Felt the outbreak start with tingling in my buttocks and that afternoon started taking 500 mgs of Valacyclovir 2x a day for 7 days.  The day after the last dose I had sex.  Also my partner did not appear to have any open sores and we only had vaginal intercourse.  As I said it was a very mild out break, I don't think I even had sores.  I would like to know what the risk is to my partner?  How long would it take for him to show symptoms?  I'm very worried about having passed this one to someone, normally I am very careful.

Oh, I see.  Now I understand.  I think it would be important, then to get him tested to see if he is actually infected or not.  If he is not infected already, and happened to get infected from this encounter, which I doubt he will, and if he is going to have symptoms with a first infection, he would have them within 2-10 days, most often.  Let me know if you have any other questions.

I'm a little confused.  Your partner didn't have any open sores?  Does he have herpes as well?  Is there a reason he would have open sores?  I think I'm not understanding this correctly.

If your partner doesn't have herpes, and I was thinking he didn't because you are concerned about transmitting this to someone,   You can be infectious to others when you do or don't have an outbreak.  70% of new cases of genital herpes are transmitted to someone else when the infected person has no symptoms.

Has your partner actually ever been tested to see if he might have herpes and not know it?  90% of those infected with HSV 2 don't know it.

In this particular case, I'm hoping that the Valtrex would greatly reduce the risk of transmission to your partner.  So that's good.

To answer your above question (sorry I missed it yesterday), no, the two sets of symptoms are unlikely to be similar.

My partner just mentioned to me that he felt terrible tonight (no specifics), just that he feels "very very ill" and like "****" and thinks it is a flare up of his thyroid disease.  Can the symptoms of thyroid disease be the same as the initial out break of genital herpes?

Thanks

P.S. can not disclosing status and passing it on cause legal action to be taken against me?  I'm panicing...

I do not know if he has HSV 2 or not.  I was concerned about passing it to him.  When I said he had no open sores, what I ment was that his penis and genital area looked "clean", no scratches or anything that would make it easier for the virus to penitrate the skin.
