Help Please!

Hello,

So, I recently went for my semi-annual check up and got tested for all std's. When my results returned all were negative except for the HSV-2 IgG. The testing center told me I was positive for HSV2 which has ruined my daily functioning because of stress... the lines read as follows:

HSV-1 IgG <.91
HSV-2 IgG 1.40 High

Is this a false positive? My last sexual encounter was in early December (around the 10th).

This is incorrect.  I hope no one takes this as a correct statement.  Please see the response to the original post.

It is not correct that anything between 1.1 and 3.5 is a false positive.  It is correct that some people who test and have an index value of between 1.1 and 3.5, have a false positive - about 50% are actually false positives.  The closer the index value is to 1.1, the more likely it is to be a false positive.  Since your index value is very close to 1.1, I would strongly recommend that you get a herpes western blot to confirm or deny this positive result.  The Quest lab code for this test is 34534.  You can try to get this done through your regular provider. If for some reason you can't get this done through them, we can help you get it done through our clinic.

Don't panic.  Just follow the appropriate steps for confirmation and let's see what happens.

Hello, yes anything between 1.1 and 3.5 is considered a false positive.  I also had a low positive and I plan on getting the Western Blot, as soon as I figure out how to get it ordered.
