I'm an *** but I need to ask, oral trans HSV2

If anything happens up north it will be what I deserve.  I was diagnosed with HSV back in 1990. I rarely ever get outbreaks and to this day, have not been told if what I have down below is HSV1 or HSV2.

Back in the day I was tested, a general physician told me "If it is not 'out' your chances of getting it are SO REMOTE!" Well, I got tested postive.

Since then I have lived in shame. I have rarely had sex for years. I hear a lot of herpes jokes at work.
I just don't talk about it. I feel focusing on it will make me miserable.

I recently went abroad and drank a lot. I went home with a young gentleman.
He had no barriers so we had "outercourse" which was a relief. He literally tucked it back. I clenched my legs.

We did a lot of kissing beforehand. His taste was odd. I cannot place it except it seemed like bad breath.
I was very relaxed, and suddenly he flipped me on my back and went down on me with no barrier. After a minute I told him to stop. I don't remember if he kissed me afterwards.

I never performed fellatio and there was no penetration.

This happened at 2am one morning. I walked back to my holiday apartment. I woke up at 10am with a sore throat. After a few days my tongue tingled. Today is ten days since.  I just went to my general physician. He examined my throat and made no note of any patches or bumps. He did a rapid strep test which turned out negative.

The doctor prescribed Azithromycin and told me to gargle with listerine.

I have nothing going on other than a sore throat. My tongue seems to tingle but I wonder if that is dry mouth from my nerves. There are absolutely no bumps, patches, sores or any such thing I can find in my mouth. It's hard to see the back of my throat but I really don't notice anything unusual.
Just red tonsils.

I have no other symptoms of ANYTHING in fact. No fever, malaise, nothing.

I don't know if any form of HSV can produce a sore throat in just 8 hours or so. And there are no sores, but I wonder.

Nothing in your post suggests herpes to me.  You could have easily had a little viral sore throat for a few days, nothing to worry about if you are getting better.

I would like to ask you some questions about your genital herpes diagnosis.  How were you diagnosed in 1990.  Was it a swab test, a blood antibody test, a physical exam?  It would be very useful for you to know a bit more, like the type of virus that you have.

Could you let me know the answers to those questions?  I know its not what you are asking, but since you brought it up, I would like very much to follow up.  Thanks

i recently took a herpes blood test which came back negative for hsv 1 but positive for hsv2.  i have had shingles very recently and i'm wondering if this is somehow related to the positive test.  i have never had any symptoms that i knew of - no blisters, no lesions no outbreaks:  i only got tested because i thought that i may have been exposed to it.  i had the blood test and it showed that the antibodies were in my blood so doctor said i was positive for herpes.  couldn't say how or when could only say that i had it because the antibodies were in my blood.  is that necessarily true? wouldn't the shingles anitibodies be the same in my blood or are the shingles antibodies different from the hsv antibodies? are the shingles antibodies related to hsv1 or hsv2?

Sometimes people do post in both locations, yes.  And sometimes, Hunter and I consult with each other about a question.  Just this weekend, someone posted at my board and also at his, so it does happen, for sure!

Okay, 'cause I could have sworn I ready something by Hansfield saying that they do not allow questions to be repeated.  I read it after I asked you this.

My azithromycin was finished yesterday, but I still feel a little soreness in my throat and tingliness, although it is nothing like it was before.

A year ago I was afraid I got HIV from sharing a fork with a positive man, because I am a lipbiter. However, Hansfield said I was at no risk, and when I took testing at the appropriate time frame, all came back negative, and the lab counselor said that because of how long i waited to take it, there was no need to re-test.  At that time I was concerned because I had a sore throat that lasted over three weeks, and standard cultures came back with nothing.

That same night I had my A/C unit on and I hadn't washed the filter since the previous year, so I figured that might have had something to do with it. That was the only other thing I could come up with.

I doubt this is an allergy thing since I was in a different country, although stuff happened around the same time last year.

If you would like to post a question to Dr. Handsfield, you can do it at the STD Forum on this same website.  Absolutely no offense taken, I think second opinions are great.

BTW, I was looking at some other posts here and notice one person you answered seemed to ask the exact same question, like a copy of sorts, to Dr. Hansfield.

Is that doable here? And if so, how does one do this?

No offense to you of course. Just looking for another opinion.  :)

If the swab test was positive, then it was herpes, just wanted to confirm with you that lab testing was done and was positive rather than just a physical exam.

I wish I could. I don't even remember who the doctor was. That was a million years ago!

Supposedly they said the swab TEST said it was positive.
If it's not herpes, what else could be causing a tiny bit of itching and then soreness, and then little bumps under me all these years?

Writing herpetic lesions on chart doesn't make it herpes.  Can you get a copy of the swab test results and be sure they were positive and what type was identified?

Yes, it was a swab. No blood taken. I remember the doctor writing "herpetic lesions of the interior vulva" on a chart. Syphillis was also tested for. That came back negative.

I even noticed just now that there seem to be two identical spots on the opposite side of the tongue that just look a little fleshier colored. Maybe these really were buds after all, that got raised the way buds often do?

I feel MUCH better now actually. Coincidence? Most sore throats are viral from what I read, but this was an antibiotic. Aren't they useless against viruses?

No no no more going anywhere with someone on the spur of the moment like that again!
And barriers everywhere! The stress, guilt, all of it, is not worth it.

Should also say that this teensy thing that looked like a canker, is really barely visible and even the MILD MILD soreness, seems to be ebbing. My throat is also feeling significantly better. I started taking the antibiotics yesterday. Suprising, since antibiotics do nothing for viruses and most sore throats are caused by viruses, or so I read?

Me again. Later after I wrote this, I did notice the tiniest little white spot that looked similar to a tiny canker, wayyy back on one side of my tongue. Thought there might have been another but hard to tell. Not painful really. Today I can't see them at all, but I feel a little something that resembles very mild canker pain. Mild!

I plan to have it swabbed tomorrow, if I can even help the clinician find it!
