hsv2 survival

I posed a question in the herpes community and got an answer, but I would like a more in depth explanation to better calm myself. Could a tube a bacitracin used on a sore carry and hold the virus for months? How would it survive?

this saturday I got a severe cut on my finger and used the tube to experiment. I am getting arthitis like pain shooting up my arm and all my digits are have been itching since yesterday. the finger I applied it to is tingling constantly. there is also pain in my wrist. could this be whitlow? could I have the magic situation in this tube where the hsv did survive?

I originally used the tube to help heal a tattoo - would this change the circumstance and your opinion?

No, I don't believe that a tube of bacitracin would carry the herpes virus for months.  There is some evidence to suggest that herpes virus could stay alive for a few hours if on a warm, moist environmental surface, but not a tube of anything for months.  I'm not clear why anyone would use an antibiotic cream on a viral cold sore, either, but that's a different story completely.  The herpes virus needs cells in which to live and there would be no support for the virus in the circumstance that you describe.
