I didn't know it was Google, I thought MedHelp had a direct relationship with the advertiser. But once I took dresses and apparel off on my Google list, the irritating women in $89 bridal gowns and odd-looking prom dresses all went away. I don't actually mind Google AdSense, sometimes I'm doing long-term shopping (for light fixtures and faucets for a house we're renovating, for example) and something actually pops up that I would be interested in. It's better than having things pop up that are the opposite, as specialmom says. But some ads are way more obnoxious than others, and especially if they have motion and special effects, they freeze the site while they download, too.
Hi,
It sounds like you are being retargeted through Google AdSense. I have the same issue that after visiting Amazon to see some swim trunks I have been retargeted with swim trunks everywhere I go. One of those times was during and important customer demonstration and between the swim trunks and the "Tough Mudder" race I had been looking at, it was rather embarrassing!
Hope you are able to mute the ads.
Ha, well. I tried to get rid of ads a while ago that I hated and BAM---- as soon as I pulled up the ad, played around with it, etc. I was inundated with it. It was like a bad joke. I had a lot of dating sites I think because I'm on the relationships and divorce and break up forum, the ad people must have thought I was in the market. I did find where I could click types of ads I want and don't want and that helped. Then I began ignoring the ads rather than messing with them. Much better now. Christian Mingle still pops up once in a while but better than some sexy blonde who it says lives down the street and wanted to meet me.
Thanks for both suggestions. I did go to Google and change my ad preferences, just blocked "dresses" and "apparel." We'll see if it works.
Annie, when you click on the "X" and mute the ad, a little message box comes up asking if you want to change your google ad preferences, with a link. Maybe try that?
Hi there -
If you can right click on the ad, and get a link for it by going to properties, we may be able to. If you can't get that, and feel comfortable, click on the ad, then copy the link of the page you land on when it opens. We may be able to do it with a screen shot, too.
There isn't a way for you to block a certain ad, though.
