Hi - our engineers are aware that this is a problem. If you type in your search terms and press "enter" rather than the search button, it should work properly for you.
To comment on your own status, you can go to your profile and click "Show All" on the box for the statuses. When you hover over one of your status updates, a "Comment" option should appear. If you try that and don't see it, let us know and we can troubleshoot.
