avoiding duplicate reporting?

Hello MH Moderators,

I think it would be helpful that, if someone has already reported a post, that if a second person tries to report it, the report button states - "this has already been reported" or something to that effect.  For example, I reported 2 posts this morning as duplicates, because the poster posted the exact same question 3 times - but there is no way for me to know if someone else before me has already done this, or, someone may report it again after I already did.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

S.

Thanks, sandstone27!  I'll pass this along to the folks who have the ability to look into the possibility of making it happen :)

FYI - I don't think the "best answer" button is working - I hit it a few times on your reply, but I don't think it registered.

Hi Sandy -

Are you able to choose now?  I'll check on this for you.

Thanks,

I actually recently had a post duplicate on me, but I reported it myself and it was taken care of when I went back to take a look.  So, sometimes there is a weird malfunction.  When I noticed this happen, though, I reported it immediately and it was taken care of.  So, it isn't always someone posting duplicate intentionally.  Sometimes there is just a weird glitch or malfunction, and it's even hard to tell which end caused the problem at times.

Hi Emily - Still not working - I tried it several times. The "best answer" option pops up, and I can click on it, but it doesn't populate the thread with a best answer.  I wonder if it's a problem in the forum as well.....

Furballsmom - Thanks, we are aware of this.  I call it a server hiccup, but what happens is when the server is trying to process everything happening, it can get hung up on a job, and that is when things duplicate.  We are working on a fix for this now.

sandstone27 - Thanks, I'm going to check on this.

Hey there -

When you are trying to choose a best answer, are you trying to do this on someone else's thread, or a thread you started?  Only the person who started the thread can choose best answer.

Also, are you only trying in this Community, or others?  It doesn't seem to be working in this one, but others seem to be.

Hi, No, I'm only trying to do it on the thread I've created since that's the only person who can choose the best answer.  I create very few threads, and  the only 3 I've created recently have been in this forum.  This is the only time I've tried to do the best answer thing.

I've noticed it does seem to be working for others in other forums.
This is the only community I've tried it in, as it's the only community I've created a thread in.  And I'm doing this on my laptop at home.

I tried it again just for the heck of it, but it still didn't work...
Maybe it's a Moderator thing in certain forums?  Anyway, good luck with that..

I tried this on another thread that I created, the one about moving threads to another location, but the best answer selection didn't work there either.

Maybe it's me? Are there any other best answers in this community?

For the sake of technology, can I do a test for best answer in the SA forum? you could remove it after the fact.  otherwise I don't have any other ideas.  And to honest, it's not much of an issue with me since I don't create many threads.  But I'm sure (I think it was Claire) would have liked to have her best answer credit.

Night all,

S.

Hi -

It's working in Addiction, but not here.  We are checking it out.

Thanks for clarifying.  I appreciate it.
