I had been suffering from headaches periodically and couldn't nail down the source, UNTIL I  started taking a mentholated SUGAR FREE cough drop by Ricola called,  "Mountain Herb" to provide relief for some nasal congestion.   For the first couple of  days, as I took just one or two, there was no problem.  However, after I settled into a pattern of taking 4 a night, spaced out about one every hour, I began to get a regular and lasting headache.

After much analysis of my recent diet, I concluded that it might be something in the Ricola drops that was the cause.  That's when I noted that they contain ASPERTAME, the sugar free sweetener which also goes by the name of SUCRALOSE.  Then I remembered reading what Dr. Mercola, at mercola.com, had said about the many reasons to avoid that artificial sweetener - one of which was the common side effect of producing headaches.

Long story short - I determined through experimentation that as long as I avoided all other ASPERTAME containing products, I could take two of the Ricola drops a day without any problem.  However 3 would give me a mild headache, and 4 within a 4 to 6 hour period would always produce the severe and lasting headache !!

Therefore, I now limit my intake of either those drops or the Ricola "Lemon Mint" Sugar Free drops  (which I may take during the day if my mouth becomes dry and I don't have access to water)  to 2 drops within a 6 hour period, and no more than 3 a day.  PROBLEM SOLVED - HEADACHES  GONE FOR GOOD as I no longer exceed my tolerance threshhold for consumption of ASPERTAME/SUCRALOSE !!
Thankyou, Dr. Mercola !!!

Examine the ingredients of your fruit juices, chewing gum, etc. for Sucralose and/or Aspertame and see if eliminating it resolves you problem.
Good luck.

I would ask to see a neurologist...tho I would think your doc should have referred you already as they tend to specialize in "headache" issues. There are soooo many causes & types of headaches & it's important to find out wat kind you are havingto find out what medication/treatment may help as some help on one kind while not at all on others...trust me, been there, done that(and that's for migraine specific pain)

Good luck & keep us posted...

So many things cause headaches.  I suffer from frequent Migraines.  Before I knew they were migraines I just thought they were sinus headaches.  I suffered for 5  yrs before I finally knew what they were.  I would say to you don't give up.  Nobody should have to live with daily pain.  If you don't get relief from a general practicioner or family dr see a neurologist.  Although I don't have a cure I have medication at least that can stop the migraines.  I still have not had much success in preventing them.  BUT.  At least I have pain relief now.  Best of luck as you try to figure out why you are having the headaches!!

Review ur MRI results...they may have been looking for one thing and missed something they did not consider...u do have copies of the MRI?...if not, call the facility that did the studies and request the MRI on disks and the report....u may want a diff Dr to review for a 2nd opinion.
