Headaches and tics

Hello,
For the past 3+ weeks i've noticed in association with my frequent headaches (daily) i am getting a "tic" or twitch in the neck.  It is quick and unnoticed by others (so far).  The tic seems to mainly occur when i'm having or about to have a headache.

I did go to the doctor regarding this (walk-in clinic) and she stated that there was a lot of strep going around and had to be the cause of my headaches with no explanation of my "tics".  I was prescribed antibiotics and vicodine for pain.

The pain meds helped the headaches and calmed the "tics" a little.  I've also found myself tilting my head more than normal.  As if my neck muscles are weak.  If i prop my head up with my arm the tics normally don't occur.

Im not a smoker and rarely have a beer (usually just one when my head is killing me).

Other symptoms with my headaches... dizziness, blurred vision, racing thoughts, inability to concentrate.   Any ideas?

Thank you for your support.

Beer is the absolute WORST thing for migraines, especially tap beer. Beer has something called tyramine in it, which is known to cause migraines. Tyramine is also found in wine and cheese, especially cheddar cheese (extra sharp cheddar has the most).

Hi,
Cervical dystonia or spasmodic torticollis is the most common of the focal dystonias. When we say dystonia, it refers to movement disorders in which sustained muscle contractions cause twisting and repetitive movements or abnormal postures. These movements can be involuntary and sometimes painful. It may affect a single muscle or a group of muscles. In torticollis, the muscles in the neck that control the position of the head are affected causing the head to twist and turn to one side. Talk to your doctor about this. Direct clinical examination is essential. Take care.

Hi, I experience tic under my eye when I am under stress.  I also had tourettes as a child but out grew it. or rather is stopped after a couple of years.  I get miagraines all the time and have since I was  17, I'm 57 now.  My miagraines include the aura or bright jagged wiggly lines and sometimes progress to blind areas in my vision.  I also get dizzy and disoriented, however, the racing thoughts, no.

I  am Bipolar and the only time I have racing thoughts is when I am in an episode.

I also think a neurologist would be helpful to eliminate causes of the tics and racing thoughts, if he cannnot help you, I would see a phycharist to make sure you are not having other issues due to stress, etc.  Stress will definitely bring on a miagraine.  Best of luck to you.

Hi,
How are you? Can you elaborate on the tics?  A  tic is a repeated spasm that often involve the eyes and muscles of the face. The cause of tics is unknown, but stress appears to make it more severe. Certain medications may also be responsible. If it persists, have this checked by a neurologist for proper evaluation. Take care and do keep us posted.
