Reoccuring left-sided headache

Over the past two weeks I have been suffering from a headache on the lower left side of my head. It is a very localized pain that comes and goes daily multiple times. It is often accompanied by nausea and when I bend over it gets much worse. I have had migraines for 14 years and have been taking 600 mg of Neurontin 3 times a day. This seems to be a much different pain though. About a month ago I hit my head in the same spot, but the pain didn't start until a few weeks after. It's very frustrating. Thank you

Thank you very much for your help. I've decided to make an appointment with my doctor to get this checked out. I've learned to deal with headaches so I am being a bit more nonchalant about this new one due to it. There is slight swelling on that side and it is VERY tender to the touch and neck movements. But I really appreciate your comments. Thanks again :)

You feel now you have a new headache, which is different from your earlier migraine. In fact, Neurotin itself rarely can produce headache as a side effect.

Headache on one side of a few days duration worsening on bending makes one think about sinusitis. Nausea is not a usual accompaniment here. But it started a few weeks after a hit on the head. That means you may have to be investigated by a neuro to rule out a "chronic subdural haematoma."

Usually the patients forget about the 'hit' and the diagnosis may not be apparent.

Thomas Antony

Hi,

Thanks for writing in.
I would suggest you to apply ice packs to the affected part of head and take OTC pain killers to relieve pain. Headache and pain can be due to injury.
Is there any swelling also?
Another possibility is sinusitis as headaches due to sinusitis get worse on bending forwards. Do you have runny nose or a post nasal drip?
If the headache is not relieved in the next couple of days it is important that you get yourself clinically examined. Take care!
