Ok, I started itching my arms about 8 mos ago. I live in the desert where it gets up to 120 degrees in the summer months. I discovered the name of this condition after googling "insane itching that makes you want to cut your arms off, etc." and found this wonderful & informative forum. It was very helpful, but saddened to hear that most Dr.'s are unaware of the condition, and there's really no cure. I haven't tried anything yet, but am going to my MD next week to educate him about this condition and hopefully w/my medi-cal insurance, try to get a referral & approval from them to see a chiropractor. It started out a little attack of itching here and there, but mostly at night. Lately, and it's winter now, it has been getting out of hand...starting w/itching everyday & night on my left upper arm. Now it's both upper arms and tops of my shoulder...every night and I'm suffering from sleep deprivation. Now I'm acknowledging the seriousness of this condition and hopeful that with the right stretching exercises like yoga, chiropractic care...that I will get this under control and/or learn to live with it. The prospect of living w/it right now seems impossible & I can't even imagine not going crazy if it gets any worse!
I'm wondering if anyone knows about or has been "cured" through surgery? (which I can't afford anyway, but haven't been able to find any information about). I am a middle-aged women and I had surgery about 30 yrs ago when I broke my neck in a car accident and a surgical fusion of my C4, 5 & 6. If anyone has any information about any surgery or other natural modalities that would help alleviate the symptoms, I would really appreciate any help or suggestions. Thanks in advance & thanks for listening.
