Pineal Gland Lesion

Hi i am writing regarding the report we just received on my 5 yr old son.  He has a pineal lesion measuring 11mm TRV x 11mm AP x 9 mm CC. It is predominantly T2 hyperintense, there is a thin internal septation along the left aspect.  A small nodular component along the left aspect of the lesion represents displaced pineal gland. This finding results in some flattening of the superior Colliculus.  Can you put this in English for me please.

I have lost vision in the right upper quadrant of my visual field.  Do you have an opionon as to what could cause this and what can be done about it.

Hi ryan,
The pineal gland is a small endocrine gland in the brain. It produces melatonin, a hormone that may weakly modulate wake/sleep patterns. It is located near the center of the brain, between the two hemispheres. The superior colliculus is a paired structure that is part of the brain's tectal area.
The colliculus as a whole is thought to help orient the head and eyes toward something seen and heard.
What are the symptoms he is experiencing?
Does he feel blurring of vision, difficulty in coordinating eye movements? If so then it might be because of flattening of Superior Colliculus.
Examination by a neuro-ophthalmologist is recommended, and, ideally, a multidisciplinary team consisting of a neurosurgeon, neurologist, and a neuro-ophthalmologist should evaluate your son's case.
Hope this helps.
Bye.
