hi lindy,
I have thoracic issues also. I have a T7/T8 herniation that is impressing on the thecal sac.
I also have several higher up thoracic bulges that are impressing on the thecal sac. The thecal sac is what covers the spinal cord, in case you are not aware. I just found out about this as I just had my MRI. I also have 2 pretty bad herniations in my cervical area which are pressing on the spinal cord.
all of this has caused me much problem. I will tell you about it, if you still check this thread and we can compare notes:)
missy
You should go to the link the good doctor provided you, as for surgery. I have a thoracic spine problem, but not sure if my story will help you. I'll send you a message to your "My MedHelp" page, you click on that icon at the top of this page, and it'll take you to your profile page, where people will send you notes and messages.
I understood that this surgery was done by splitting the breastbone, removing one lung, and the aorta over. It is one of the most drastic spinal sugeries done today. At least That''s what I've been told. The epidural did not work. Can you recommend a surgeon? I have excellent insurance (3 policies) One more thing, what is your opinion of pain pumps? I must do something quickly- the pain along the R colon and R rib cage is terrible. Thank You so Much for Your Time, Lindy
Hi,
Surgical options for thoracic spine disc disease are resorted to when the conservative management fails.
The traditional way of treating is by laminotomy where an incision is made down on the center of the back and microdiscectomy in which a very small incision is made and the surgeon looks through a microscope. The recovery is faster with microdiscectomy because of smaller incision and less surgical damage.
