Re: Karlas - acdf sx.
Hello. Pls I noticed that you mentioned that "Yes indeed nerve compression can cause pain and burning sensation to scalp". Is this also the case when a person has not had this acdf sx?
About 3 years now, I've been suffering this kind of symptom, along with nasal cavity sensitivities, and throat mvmts/spasms. 3 ENT visits - no problems noted. I wonder, could I be suffering from some nerve compression? I usually have to cover my hair to avoid further aggravation and use salt (funny, but not funny) to relieve the tightness I feel sometimes in my scalp.
Hi,
Yes indeed nerve compression can cause pain and burning sensation to scalp.
The nerve root involved would be C1 to C2.
I think you should be consulting your neurologist and neurosurgeon at earliest.
Physiotherapy should be continued.
Keep me informed if you have any queries.
Bye.
Yes, I had the acdf surgery. Could the nerve compression also be causing the pain and burning sensation to the scalp? Thank you for your response. I will begin the vitamin b12 supplement.
Hi Karlas,
I assume that the surgery you are talking about is Anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF).
It is a procedure performed to treat a damaged disc in the neck area of your spine. It is used to treat bulging and herniated disc.
“Anterior” means that your doctor reaches the damaged disc from the front of your neck.
I think there appears to some nerve compression post-operatively at the site of surgery hence you are having pain in sides of neck and shoulder.
It will take time to heal.
The throat pain you are explaining is due to anterior approach for surgery.
Are you on multivitamin supplementation?
I think you should be started on Vitamin B12 supplementation.
Keep me informed if you have any queries.
Bye.
