Constant Dizziness

I have been suffering from dizziness for the past 2 months. I am a 27 year old male. It is a feeling of unsteadiness and things are always moving like the walls, grounds or objects as if you're on a boat. I've had this a year ago which lasted for 2 weeks and went away naturally. Excatly a year later it came back and it's been 2 months of constant non-stop dizziness.

Does anybody out there know if there is a cure to this? I've seen doctors of all kinds without much explaination to the causes of this problem. Please if you know anything that can help relieve the symptom or more important correct the problem I would love to hear from you.

I will even travel and send you a Christmas gift if you can direct me to someone who can help. This problem has ruined my life and now I can't do anything but sleep in bed and close my eyes. Any help would be so greatly appreciated.

It might be helpful if you gave us a little more information about your condition.

Is there anything that precipitates the dizziness? Is it already present when you wake up? Do you have any hearing loss or ear pain? Any headaches?

What kinds of doctors did you go to? What were the tests performed if any? Were you given any medications? Did the medications relieve the dizziness when taken?

There are a lot of causes of dizziness including vestibular system disorder, Meniere's disease, hypoglycemia, hypotension, etc. The cause of your condition may be clearer if there were other symptoms accompanying the dizziness.

Hello DrGodoffredoMD. Thank you so much for reading and responding.

Nothing precipitates the dizziness. It is a feeling I get 24/7 whether I'm sleeping, awake, standing, sitting, walking, etc. When I do move a lot like walking, it gets worse but once I settle down and sit it'll calm a bit down.

There are no headaches or hearing loss or any kind of ear pain associated with the dizziness. Just plain dizziness and unsteadiness/ unbalance.

I've been to general doctors, nuerologist, herbalist, chiropractor and other alternative medicine doctors. No major test have been performed and only testing that test my basic functions of the nervous system and blood pressure, etc. Everything seemed to be normal.

I requested to have a blood test done and am waiting to here back from my Nuerologist and will have an MRI of the head this weekend.

The only medication that helps a little is Dramamine or Benadryl.

If you know of anything that can narrow down the causes or the diagnosis of this problem or anything that can help relieve the dizziness, please let me know. Thank you.

Hi.

The dizziness and unsteadiness, without any other accompanying symptoms, can be more likely related to either a vestibular disorder or a cerebellar disorder.

It would be advisable to go ahead with the MRI and consult with your neurologist. Also, a consult with an ENT physician might help detect or rule out any vestibular cause to your condition.

Yes I am talking about going to an optometrist. There are only three specialists in North America that deal with this. It is worth checking out. No surgery, no drugs, no kidding. DrGodofredoMD and lognum, thanks for responding. I will certainly take your advice. I am in the process of getting a referal to see an ENT and my MRI is this weekend. I also took a look at the www.vsofb.com site and spoke to one of the doctors.

DrGodofredoMD, since you are a doctor, can you tell me if it's common for a younger person to have dizziness for such a long period of time? 24/7 for 2 months straight. Isn't that too long and a sign that something serious might be going on? No doctors are taking me serious and that's why I've been waiting for such long periods to get testing done or see other specialist.

Do you have any tips on how to see doctors sooner? What do I need to tell them or show them in order to be seen because I don't want something bad to happen the longer I end up waiting.

Hi.

Two months of dizziness is definitely a long time, whether you are 27 or 77. However, it doesn't automatically mean that what you have is something serious, unless the symptoms have continuously worsened, or new symptoms pop up. The only thing that is certain at that point is that the condition is of a chronic nature.

You should go ahead with the MRI and your consults. If your symptoms worsen and become intolerable, you should immediately consult a physician.

I would like to comment on the 27 year old man and his dizzyness. The advice he got to go to the website of sofb.com was the best advice. They are the vision specielists of Birmingham Michigan. The doctor is Dr. Debbie and the treatment is prisims in the glasses. I suffered from dizzyness and panic attacks for 40 years and have no more dizzyness thanks to Dr. Debbie and prisims in my glasses. Hi! I was wondering how are you doing right now? Are you still experiencing dizziness and the unsteady feeling?
The reason why Im asking is I'm on the same boat as you. My dizziness started 4 weeks ago. It started out pretty bad and has gotten better since. I still feel dizzy and imbalance when I walk.
Can you help me out with this? I'm tired of feeling this way, I'm at the point where I'll try everything. I went to the ENT and he said that it is not ear related. I'm just trying to figure out what is causing it.

ive been feeling dizzy for 6 months and i just had an mri done there was something small that brightened up they dont know if thats whats causing the dizziness but yea 6 months ive been dizzy and there are a lot of reasons where dizziness occurs...

My sisters husband has had dizziness for weeks at a time on and off for years..He also found out that his sister and mom have had similar occurences..I read that there is some type of familial episodic vergito that affects families..anyone hear of this??also sometimes migrains can cause vertigo with no headache????

You think 2 months straight is a long time? Try 5 years. Thats how long my dizzyness has lasted for. I havent drove in 5 years because of it. It is a miserable feeling and i hate having to depend on other people to bring me places. The dizzyness came out of the blue one day while i was driving and for me it gets worse if i turn my head. Ive been trying to cope with this for years and i havent found a diagnosis yet. One neurologist diagnosed it as vertigo but i know it is not vertigo because nothing spins. Its more like a movement disorder. Anytime i move the dizzyness comes on. Well if you find anything out let me know!

Hey Constant Dizziness, have you received your diagnosis back from the MRI. I have the exact same thing that you are talking about. It is a constant state of dizziness. It has been going on for 4 weeks now. Never worse and never better, just constant. I feel it mostly when I get up and move around, and all I can do is sleep and rest. I hate it!

PLEASE someone help me understand what it going on. I am tired of paying doctors who just look at me like I am crazy...

Hi im a 47 yr old female ... I have type 2 diabeties which is always out of wack . It was up to 32 but now i have it down to 10 to 13 everyday ... and never been dizzy before ... But the past week its been really bad on and off ... had two days that it wasnt so bad and i could function and get around but again today the dizzy spells are back . I feel like the room is spinning and i have to sit down .. seems to be every few mins i feel like this today . and for the fist time feel ill to my tummy with it also . I am under alot of stress also just wondering if that has anything to do with it .
Trying to get in to see my Doc but she's away till end of this month
If theres a Doc on here that could point me in the right direction as to what to do that would be great .

super dizzy for 3 months now.....have no answers and im strating to FREAK OUT...

im 25 coloege student and i have never been sp depressed.

i have seen GP, ENT, ER dr and neurologist, had blood work, CT's, VNG balance test, allergy and hearing test,,everything came back normal

the ENT says he thinks it allergies, starting using claritin for a few days and felt great,

a week later (now) I FEEL HORRIBLE....this dizziness is killing me

can anyoine help?.....please??...suggestions anything

Any ideas yet?  Has it gotten better?  I'm 28 and started getting dizzy about 4 weeks ago.  Ive been to a slew of doctors, and my ENT thinks its a virus, as it had accompanied a chronic sore throat.  I am still dizzy and have made a list of like 25 things it could be.  I feel your pain.  It is awful, pure and simple.  You cant do anything well at least.  I would be curious to see how you are doing and see if anyone has any other ideas!  They've done all the BHBV or whatever it is tests and nothing!

some one help me what should i do I have been dizzy for almost a month now went to the emergency room thay said they couldnt find any thing.  im dizzy just about everyday and every minute and when i am not dizzy i try to enjoy it with my kids and husband but it doesnt last long. it seems to be getting worse i have been taking maclizine and it helps for maybe 20 min but causes me to feel very sick as if i am bout to vomit. as well i have started to have a stiff neck.

Have you found an answer for your dizziness yet? My daughter has been suffering from constant dizziness since September 2011 and has had or seen MRI ENT Neurologist cardiologist etc.

No answer for her yet. But treating as though its migraine.

This is horrible!! After several visits to my doctor he thought it was labryinthitis (inner ear infection) but after referring me on to an ENT Specialist he ruled out it being anything to do with my ears, so the ent specialist has now referred me on to a nuerologist which i am seeing on the 5th of May. Ive been feeling extremely dizzy 24/7 for 4 months now aswell as my GLANDS in my neck being swollen. Also sometimes when i blink i see zig zagged white lines like lightening strikes. I haven't left the house proper because of it. I have had blood tests and they have come back all clear. Basically it has left me disabled. All i can do is lie down and walk round my house and on good days go in my back garden. I am only 18 years old, before this i went to the gym 3 times a week, played football almost everyday, went running, had a job (which i obviously haven't got anymore!) i can't beleive whats happened to me, i don't know what to do anymore!!!!!!!!! FINALLY!!! Someone took the words right out of my mouth!!! I have been experiencing the EXACT SAME THING for over a year now. I was also driving and had absolutely no warning that my episode was coming on. One second I felt normal and the next second I didn't. I have been mis-diagnosed, re-diagnosed, & un-diagnosed over and over again. I have been instructed not to drive by the docs and i am afraid to attempt to drive, but my husband is becoming inpatient with me because he is the primary caregiver to both myself & my mother in law, who suffers from alzheimer's. Do you have any suggestions for me about how to cope with this mystery illness that we have and any ideas on how to make life easier for ppl like us???

I experienced a HORRIBLE attack of Vertigo several years ago. Went to the ER and they referred me back to my PCP who prescribed Meclizine for the dizziness and nausea. All it did was make me feel tired. After 4 weeks with no improvement I was referred to a physica therapist who specializes in Vertigo. She was my savior! She showed me some simple maneuvers that helped get my vertigo under control. It didnt happen immediatlely but I could feel it getting better day by day. Eventually it went away totally (took about another 2 weeks) I still get attacks of vertigo but I am ale to control it with the maneuvers I was taught to do at home and if I catch it quick it goes away in a day or too. Hope this helps!

God bless you. I am in my 11th week of vertigo and understand how you feel. I also don't leave the house not even food shopping. I have tried prochlorperazine tabs and cinnarazine tabs. neither are working. my life is over. the eply manouvour can work for some people. you are not alone. from Ali.

I really agree with your post. I have had Agoraphobia for over 40 years after find Dr. Debbie at www.vsofm.com and having prisms put into my glasses, my symptoms are gone. Yes it was that simple and yes you are right there are to my knowledge only two eye doctors in the country that know how to do this. One in California and Dr. Debbie in Michigan. You mentioned a third, I would love to know where the third one is. The answer is simple but how to get to Michigan or California is the problem. To get you life back to normal is very much worth the effort. I hope more people out there will believe it is this simple.

YES!!!! Please for everyone who has suffered with 24/7 dizziness GET TESTED FOR VH!  I just found out that I have it and suffered for over 7 years.  It is fixable!!!!
