Eagles Syndrome

I have had a severe dull headache that never goes away for over a month now.  It just came on suddenly and gets almost non-existent as long as I am laying down.  I am experiencing nausea, disorientation, and severe head and neck pain.  It feels like someone is grabbing my muscles and sqeezing them.  The only relief I get from all of this is when I lay done in prone position with my neck supported.  The pain is so severe it has kept me from going on with my everyday life.  The headache I get is like a headrush of dull pain to my head and is aggravated by moving my neck up and down.  I would be interested to know if anyone else out there has experienced this.  I think I have eagles syndrome because my xrays show calcification of the ligaments, but I cannot get a doctor interested enough to figure out what's going on.  I have seen a neurologist and an osteo doctor that specializes in neck pain.  I would like to find a doctor who has diagnosed eagles syndrome in someone.

Hi,
A brief note on Eagles syndrome:
Eagle's syndrome refers to patients with elongated styloidic processes and cervical facial pain. Elongation of the styloid process is a well known bony anomaly that has been associated with head pain. this elongation is present in about 4% of the population. But only very few of them experience pain.

Diagnosing a rare condition at first shot does no good as it always tends to be wrong. It is better that the more common things are excluded first before labeling this syndrome.

Was your skull x-ray taken, and if taken what was reported.

Hi.  I am a dental hygienist.  My office just got this new I-CAT machine and they used me as the guinea pig to take the first x-ray.  After playing around with it they noticed my stylo-hyoid bone was calcified.  I never experience face pain, but after reading symptoms of Eagles Syndrome I realized I did have a few symptoms like extreme dizziness when getting up and also how my head feels like it's going to burst when I lean over too long.  My suggestion would be to have this x-ray done --some specialty dentists are now using I Cat machines.

Hope everyones issues were resolved as this is an old post.  I was diagnosed with Eagles Syndrome from an ENT with a CT scan.  If you think you may have ES,  do some research and go to an ENT FAMILIAR with it.  It is rare and not every doc is familiar with it or confident in treating it.  My symptoms were right sided:  ear pain, throat pain in tonsil area, jaw ache, eye ache, neck pain,  dizzy upon standing., and times of too much saliva and periods of off balance.  I'm in the process of finding a good doc for possible surgery.  So far not a one in the State of Michigan!
