Epstein Barr Virus

Three years ago I began to experience a tingling sensation across the top of my nose. Then my teeth began to feel sensitive. 2 months later my teeth began to hurt ( nerve pain) and the pain is chronic. One month later my mouth began to burn and my ears hurt like an earache and I was also experiencing a fullness sensation in my ears and my
head felt heavy and achy. Today, all of my teeth are numb and there is severe chronic pain in all of my teeth. My hands and feet, arms and legs tingle and are numb. There is also a constant clicking sound like fluid in and around my
ears. The pain never subside but becomes worse as the day goes on. I have been seen by 4 neurologist, 2 internists,
2 ENT's, a candida dr, chiropractors, physical therapists and currently seeing a chinese medical dr for herbal treatment and accupuncture. My internist told me that I have or currently had the epstein barr virus. Could this be
the cause of all of my agony that has gone undiagnosed and treated? Could this virus be the cause of my horrific
oral, facial pain?
Thank you!
Susan Morris

Hello!
It has been five years since I posted! Just this week, I got a diagnosis of Chronic Active Epstein Barr. I have been suffering now for over 8 years. In 2008, I tested NEGATIVE for Epstein Barr or it was in remission. Now, a new dr has diagnosed me with this condition. I was told that I had Lyme and mold two years ago, but the dr who ordered the tests, told me I did not have mold or lyme. So I am really confused. The oral pain is the worse. I now have developed new symptoms since I posted....muscle pain, tinnitus, chronic headaches and chronic fatigue. I am so confused, I don't know what to believe anymore. I am still convinced I have lyme (2 drs told me so) and the Igenex tests revealed it. I am getting treatment...in the early stages, so I have a long way to go. I am 58 years old/female. How about you? Please reply...anyone   Susan

I was diagnosed with EBV today. I've been feeling the symptoms for about 2 months on my teeth.. Now just got done with a bad Mono and bronchitis spell. :(. Waiting for teeth to feel normal again. I feel like nails on a chalkboard constantly. No meds here. -Sandy
I am experiencing the same issues and sounds like I have been left with the same unanswered questions.  What is your current status? I am also testing for Lyme and ebv. What tests did you come back positive for?? I would be very interested to hear from you, I realize that I am replying to your post that is years old at this point.. any resolution in your case?

HOLY COW... When I read your post it sounded EXACTLY like me, in the same order. I have face numbness & pain (nose & above my lip and under my eyes/cheek area). I also have back issues (bulging & herniated discs, muscle spasms) that we cannot pin down (injury, age or other).

I have been to many doctors. I've heard MS & EBV. MS is so difficult to diagnosis & is highly linked to EBV. I had mono 20 years ago and honestly, I've had fatigue, fever & pain since then.

My neurologist did blood work and found the EBV (active & previous infection). I was sent to an Infectious Disease doc who is monitoring the virus now.

My ENT suggested the "burning mouth", swollen tongue, swollen & peeling lips, ear pain, ear redness & peeling are probably related to the EBV. My ENT prescribed "Magic Mix" for my mouth and it worked INSTANTLY. He also prescribed Zanaflex  for the jaw & teeth pain which might be TMJ or MS spasm.

I am now going to a Cardiologist for chest pain, shortness of breath & rapid heart rate. Had EKG & chest xray and have appts. for echocardiograph & echo w/stress test.

Ohh... by the way I am ONLY 39  years old.

I hope you know that you aren't the only one that is going thru this. I hope I can get an accurate, FIRM diagnosis soon.

Wow. I cannot believe that I am reading  exactly what has happened to me over the past 2 yrs. I have exactly the same issues as discribed by everyone here.  None specific teeth pain, unilateral ear pain, and fullness, ear 'clicking' (tensor tympani/stapedial spasm), orofacial pain. I also have lower leg tendon pain, extreme insomnia (resistant to sleep meds)
Continued..
I tested positive for ebv and I have an equivicol Lyme , seen dozens of neurologist, dad's, infectious disease doctors. No one knows what the  is causing this 'constellation' of symptoms . I realize that this topic is from. Years ago but I would seriously like to hear if there was any resolution in any of these cases?

Susan,

I have similar issues and I have EBV. I am currently being worked up for MS and lyme disease. I don't think the doctors really know what is wrong. You may want to join us over in the EBV forum.

I have recently been diagnosed with having mononucleosis and Epstein bar virus. Lately, for the past couple of weeks when I sit at my computer for a half an hour my feet, legs, hips, mouth, lips and hands get numb. I get up and walk on my treadmill for 20 minutes and it does relieve a little bit of the numbness but I wish I knew if this is going To be my future
