Help! 19yr old Face pain & swelling

Hoping anyone has some ideas for us....my college daughter (19) last november, developed on one side of her face a strange blotchy purple rash, swelling, pain, headache.  She went to the ER near her school Rochester NY...they diagnosed it as an infection even though there was no obvious scratch or wound.  She was put on 2 strong antibotics and sent home.  Her face gradually got better of a 2 week period.   Last Sat she called and said it was coming back...this time worse....it is effecting her speech and swallowing, bad headache and constant intense pain. She says when she bends her neck forward to her chest it increases her pain.    She went back to the ER, this time drs said it is not an infection but trigeminal neuralgia.  When I looked on the internet, the description of this condition did not seem to match her symptoms.  They prescribed neurontin, but she tried to take this before, for a back problem (she has had 3 back surgeries==failed fusions)  She has allows been very sensitive to pain meds, etc.  The neurontin knocks her out and she can't function.   After her 3rd fusion she didn't use any type of pain medicine after she came off of the IV's!  I'm so worried and hoping someone knows where to get the best care for this condition.  I live in NH-near Boston, she's in NY

i have read ur daughter facial pain on the internet, can u describe the pain she is having?
is it sharp, piercing, tearing type sudden electric type short in duration say about a second or so?  if this is so than she could have been trigeminal neuralgia.

i am suffering from this disease and am on tegretol and neurontin this controls the pain.  if the doctor has said that she is having trigeminal neuralgia, i am surprised why he has not put her on tegretol tablets,  since this is the only drug that arrests the pain almost immediately

Hi,i can understand the stress you are going through. It seems to me some autoimmune disorder(discoid lupus erythematosus etc).

Please visit website http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lupus_erythematosus for more information.Consult doctor for further evaluation.

Bye and take care!
